Very Dissapointing Outing Last Week

Last Fall I Ran My 01gt Convert With Auto And 3.73 Gears And Welded On Flow Masters With Cold Air Intake And Hypertech Tune At The Dragstrip And Ran 14.4 At 95mph. Since Then I Added Steeda Underdrives,3.90 Gears, accufab 75mm T/b And Plenum,o/r Prochamber And 2.5 Cat Back Exhaust And Had Car Dyno Tuned. I Went To The Track And This Time Removed Rear Spoiler, spare And Jack And Wipers, antenna And Rf Headlamp Lens (last Fall I Left All Those Items On) And I Ran 14.3 At 96mph At The Same Track! My Reaction Times Were Near Perfect And Traction Wasn't A Issue. The Car Shifted Perfectly. The Weather Was 25 Degrees Hotter And The Humidity Was Alot Higher And There Was A 10-20 Mph Cross Wind This Time. I Still Think Car Should Of Done Better?

Maybe you should have taken all that crap out the back. I have a auto too and it ran a 14.64 bone stock with a bunch of crap in the back. I need to go back to the track.

The only way to accurately compare the two outings would be for you to post all the information from your time slips.
Then you need to look up the weather information from both outings and correct your times. I had a similar experience with mine when I added the plenum, throttle body and pullies. Initally I ran almost no better than before them but after several trips to the track I saw about
3 tenths improvement. Be sure to make a log book and track information when you run. The weather can make a 2-3 tenth difference in your times which would negate most of your improvement if there was a big difference in the D.A. btweeen those outings.

The difference in your gearing isnt much when you think about it? but your other mods should of netted you a little more power. I would think especially with the O/R pipe and underdrive pullies?

I experienced the same problem as you my first time out this year! I changed gears from 3:73s to 4:10s added new Eaton posi and axles, subframe connectors, X2C upper & lower control arms, softer shocks in the rear, Added Trickflow upper plenum, went back to my stock CAI cause my MAC cai was leaning the car out a bit! pulled the front sway bar off and I ran 3 tenths slower, same MPH and my 60ft went from a 1.90 to a 2.1 :sad1:

But like "Blue02GT" said weather could be a very big factor?

Blue02GT 07-14-2005 08:46 AM

The difference between a 2.1 and a 1.90 sixty foot is at least 4 tenths on your 1/4 mile time. That's why when you compare runs you need all the information to really see what's going on. You may feel as though two runs were the same but depending on how you staged and the sixty foot times you can be way off. One of the most over looked aspects of drag racing is staging position. If you don't make an attempt stage the same every time you will have a variance as much as 2 tenths in your e.t. With an automatic tranny you really only have to worry about staging and the launch since you are not shifting. Get a good set of drag radials or slicks and you will run consistant. With the automatic you will not have to worry about blowing up your rear end like you would in a manual tranny car.

I deep staged all 5 run's. my reaction time this year was a best of .003 with another run of .006 and a run of .065 and a .093. my 60foot times were not as good as last years 2.127. 60foot this year is 2.206 and 2.027 at best and worst were 2.288. last year and this year had same amount of fuel (1/8th of a tank)

Blue02GT 07-14-2005 10:58 AM

Shallow staging will give you a slower rt but faster et.
Reaction time does not come into play in your et. The timer does not start until you leave the second beam.
Shallow staging in essence gives you a rolling start therefore a quicker et.
Also you mentioned that traction was not an issue but it must be if your 60' times are 2.00-2.20's. You should be able to go at least 1.90 with 3.90's.
Are you running street radials or drag radials? If you are running stock Goodyears then I can see why you can't go better than 2.00 I had the same problem with 3.73's. I got a set of dr's and dropped 2 tenths right away.

I have very sticky 275/40/r17 street tires set to 24psi. I drive around the water and do 3 quick spins of the tires,by the 3rd quick spin the car is gripping good before the line. I talked with the dyno tuner and he suggested to talk to the track owner about comapring the weather conditions and or correction factors for the higher heat and humidity? The dyno tuner thinks with good fall weather the car will run 3 tenths quicker than last fall?

Blue02GT 07-14-2005 03:47 PM

You can compare the two and correct them yourself online, all you need is the time slips. Post up the data and I'll show you how.
