2nd Trip, '01 Cobra
well went my 2nd time to the track this past weekend. Just installed 3:90 gears and have some wider tires on the rear NT555 315/35's. before the gears in April i ran a 13.8, these are my times from this weekend..
1st 60' - 2.219 1/4 - 13.571 mph - 105.42 2nd 60' - 2.138 1/4 - 13.426 mph - 105.88 3rd pass, after 2nd gear, clutch went out. pretty sure i coudl have pulled a 13.3 or 13.2, but oh well. 60,000 miles ont he factory clutch, i'm thinkin it was just it's time. |
Nice times. Since your clutch went out, I recommend a spec stage 1 clutch. Other than having a better feel than the stock clutch, they're also built a little better than the stock ones. So taking it to the track every now and then won't kill it as fast as it would/did your stock one.

what about a stage 2? i only have bolt ons right now, but plan on probably putting on headers, ud pulleys, maybe eventually a mild cam. thats what i'm doin right now tryin to figure out which would be better for me the stg 1 or 2

You could probably still get away with a stage 1 with those mods. They're not going to create that much more horsepower. When you really start getting deep into the engine is when I would consider stage 2. But that's just me. You might want a few more opinions..

yea thanks, i'll look more into it
|
I loooooved my Spec stage 2. Was an awesome clutch, had a nice heavy pedal and was just all around fun. Definitely more of a racey clutch though..
|
If your not adding nitrous or a supercharger just get the stage 1 or the like. Your times are pretty good for street tires and your mods. Just need to get that 60' down some more.
|
just go with the stage two to be safe, you never know what you be adding in the future

Don't get anything bigger than a Spec stage 1. Spec clutches are tranny killers. They grab really hard and usually break the stock input shaft in a trans if the car hooks. Spec stage 2 and up are really aggressive and great track clutches if you have a built trans. If I were you, I would look into a Centerforce dual friction, Fidanza 2.1, or if you're willing to spend a little more a Mcleod. These clutches grab great, but don't put as much stress on the input shaft like the Spec does.

definitely get the stage 2 at least. No need to go back in and do it a second time if you ever end up adding power. Not too bad on the times.
