Guy with Honda @ work

yea so theres this guy at my work that drives a 95 honda civic hatch and he thinks it is god. All it has is a D16 SOHC vtec swap with full exhaust and intake. He said after he put the exhaust on that it would run with my car. i told him theres no way, but he wanted to race anyways. he said it would keep up with me till 60mph and I said theres no way cause his is not even 200whp.

So we left work and he pulls up beside me revving. So im in 2nd at 40mph and I punched it. It was real cold outside, so it just spun through 2nd. and he was next to me. Since I had spun, when i shifted into 3rd it lagged really bad and he was still right next to my door. So finally when I got into boost around 60mph I pulled about a buslength on him and shut down.

So he pulls up beside and says, "haha i knew it would hang with you until 60", I could only tell him about how I spun but it just sounded like an excuse. How can I get revenge!? Im sure he wont run it on the interstate, but its quick from slow speeds cause it actually hooks up and goes. Pesky ricers!

get him under better conditions... IE @ the track.

if you spun in second maybe its time for new street tires or drag radials. with my blower i only ran (never had anything smaller or a street tire) 275 dr's or 315's and the car would leave rail road tracks when i would floor it in second gear no spinning, maybe if it was little moist out. you dont have gears listed in your sig so i dont know if you have 410's or 390's, but if your running 327's then you have some serious traction problems with only 350 hp.

spike_africa 02-15-2007 02:32 PM

Sounds like you need to upgrade tire sizes on the back to a 275 and if you can go toa drag radial. Even when cold they hook so much better then street tires. With my nitrous when i hit 2nd even on the coldest of nights with no heat in the nittos it would hook pretty well in 2nd gear just leave a bit of rubber but pull all threw the rpms (275's on stock 8" wheel). So you might wanna invest in atleast stepping up to a 275 street tire on the back.

On a side note though, if its a little hatch they can be very fast. my freinds 94 z28 that runs 13.4's all motor got beat by a n/a B16 hatch honda. It was sad only thing on there side really is that they are soo light.

F those little hondas. in delaware i had a POS 86 CRX with a d16 swap and a PCM from a 91 integra and that little sh!t felt like it was a runner, at least a 14 second 1/4. it was all for less then 800 bucks, too bad i f'd up the valve train. the mustang started getting better gas mileage then that thing.

im never worried unless there is nitrous or a turbo, or its a k20 swap. other than that, id put money down that you rape him sideways.

well, spinning tire during the winter isnt exactly hard to do... i'd just tell him youll get him again in the spring when it warms up a bit. cold pavement pretty much sucks for traction

:icon_bs: I shifted good. I went at 40mph in 2nd and it just spun all the way like it does in first. You have to remember that my tires were cold and it was like 16 degrees outside. I let my car warm up then we punched it not even 200 ft from the store. I also hit a bump in the road coming out of 2nd. Id like to see how he handles the mustang at the track.:nunu:

Yes I am on stock gear. It sucks bad. My car has bad lag. It needs 3:73s. I am about to put a set of 275/40/17 MT drag radials on there for the weekends. i have 2 extra bullitt wheels to put them on. Just hope it doesnt break the rear!

stanger00 02-15-2007 06:42 PM

i was told to stay outta boost below 50*. for me its very dangerous since i had seen my boost go up to 15#'s in 30* air. the colder and denser the air is the leaner your car will be. thats why its bad to go into boost in low temps, unless you have a cold weather tune

get rid of the 245 daily use tire step up to a nitto drag radial for daily driving. MT's are good but thats a lot of tire changing for weekend driving, F all that noise.

edit: i only suggest nitto because they are the cheapest, relatively speaking. i think nittos work better on street then at the track.

cuban3jumper 02-15-2007 07:07 PM

A good driver doesn't just control shifting. A good driver knows when he can race ie car being warm enough, tire temp. Not to mention the ability to control his cars power and maintain traction. I'm sure you're not a bad driver I'm not saying that I meant it more as a joke.

Oh and I know you said you let it warm up I hope you did it well enough. Pounding on a blown car without letting it really get warmed up and allowing oil to cerculate through the blower especially is very bad on the supercharger.

jeredan2003 02-15-2007 07:47 PM

yes it was warmed up to normal temp. It sat for like 15 mins ideling. I may think about putting the nittos back on there, but they just wear out so fast. I hate having to change tires every 6 months and worrying about traction in bad weather. Tennessee has some crazy weather sometimes. I may put some 315/35/17 BFG KD's on the back if I can.

learn how to drive...

if you don't spin the tires so bad ya'll kill him x100

this is easy to do...

don't floor the gas... give it enough gas so it goes foward without the tires spinning...

If they spin so bad that this is nearly impossible then its time you get a better wheel/tire combo and some suspension mods

well, see he started off first, so I had to floor it. No you really cant give it part throttle from 40mph at 3000rpms. Its hard to explain. Once I hit it the pedal drops and the RPMs fly too fast to really peddel it. Usually im better off just getting into the next gear as fast as possible. Only reason it catches then is because I get boost lag from the stock gears. Once I killed a guy on the takeoff by just roasting through 1st real quick and dumping it in 2nd.

stanger00 02-15-2007 09:52 PM

you get lag because you spun the sh!t outta your tires and your not going as fast you think.

lets say you floor it at 50 mph and the rpms jump to redline so you shift to 3rd and all of sudden your down at 2k rpms and only going 65mph. this happens because your car is spinning and not gaining any momentum.
