1/8th mile n20 times.......
 

Well I took the car to the 1/8th today. I got in 3 runs. Dissapointing to say the least but it was my first time back on the track in like a year. I ran it full weight. I mean really full.....spare in trunk, toolbag and misc items in trunk, full interior and on tires with a 350 tread rating at 18psi. All runs with mild burnouts. 6 pounds of n20 in the tank and around 980psi.

1st run:
decent hook, car bogged after launch, good shifts

I am still trying to fine tune my progressive controller. Today I ramped it up a little faster for the track. I didnt try any other size shots but 100. I saw an LS1 go out there and he trapped 83mph. I think with a better 60ft and some time down the track, I can run low 8s or high 7s. There was another car out there that went 7.80s @85mph so im sure I can do it with traction. For some reason I noticed that my shifter was spewing a little tranny fluid during each run...... Always next weekend.::p

But look at the trap speed! 03/04 cobras trap around 84-85mph. I hit 87 on that 1st run.....:clap:

Yea, but my car hits 85 on motor only (255rwhp).....it's all about traction....why even spray on street tires?

So is 87mph not very good for the mods I have? I know you can trap that on motor with a drag suspension, but im talking about with a stock suspension and tires with my 60ft........

anyways.. I'd recommend more than just some sticky tires.. because I have DR's and I'm in hell now lol. well.. I'm gonna try to get wider ones (315's) and some suspension work to help out.

If it makes you feel better I'm getting even lower MPH's then you are with some of the same times. lol

If you wanna hook better dont get 315's they have a smaller sidewall and wont allow much wrinkle. You should just run your stock wheels on the street and some 15" at the track thats the best way to do it really.

I just got a set of those 17in. MT/ET streets on Bullit rims, man do they hook :eek: i just rev and dump the clutch 1.7 60fts

So you just rev to 3K and dump it? Thats all you need to do for 1.7 60fts? Will the rearend hold up under such abuse? I always just do my burnout, prestage, rev to around 2800-3000rpm, stage, and when the light turns i just slip the clutch out fairly aggressively......The car never really hooks, but I just sort of "spin out" of the hole. I mean im not just roasting tire off the line, but im slipping the clutch as I feel traction.....It hasnt really been working well since alot of cars get the jump on me.....but I usually reel them in down the road.

I'm launchin at 4k on 2step and mine hooks and goes on BFG's. It still bogs a bit since i dont launch on the kit. Just get a good pair of Drag Radials.

If you're dumping, side stepping, or whatever stepping the clutch at 2800 on street tires, you're doing NOTHING for your short time. I dump the clutch below two, hold the throttle even, she noses over A LITTLE, then I drill it to the radiator and she hooks and goes. This worked with crappy HTZ R Summis. Bottom line, no DRs or real slicks, keep your launch RPM down.

Let the truth be known, that wider tires do not hook better then less wide ones. Why? Because the contact patch is exactly the same size no matter how wide the tire. It is the shape that changes....not the width of the patch.

If you lower the pressure, the size of the contact patch will increase. If you add weight to the car or if your weight transfer is better, the contact patch will also increase.

Also, wider tires have stiffer side-walls which may actually reduce traction at launch rather then making it better.

Does reduced pressure cause cupping and thus hurt traction? Probably at a point. But, a few guys that I know who have raced a lot have told me that lowering pressure does in fact help....a bunch. You can actually drop about 0.20 tenths by lowering pressure from what I have seen.

Do DR's help? I don't think they are much better. I think they just make the launches a bit more consistant. I have seen guys swap these on and off and get similar results as with their street tires.

Well what ya gona do, Last night I ran a 12.79 and I have only done that once and I went through on my rev limiter set high at 6250.I guess it is all in the track and how you hook.

I trap 88mph on spray, but I go 7.80's. On motor I go 8.50's @79mph, full weight no suspension. Good mph low e.t. always means good set up not the best driving. good e.t. low mph means not the best setup great driving.
On non dr's I go 8.20's@85 on spray with a 1.80's 60" not spraying until mid 2gear, and it blow's the tires away even then.
