Anyone with SCT/Diablo tuners..couple of Q's
 

I'm very hesitant to buy one of these tuners. I keep hearing stories about how they either don't do what is advertised unless you purchase tunes from dealers, etc. I've also heard stories of how some willl work fine one time then start acting up when you go back to make adjustments. I'm also still not sure if you can install a tune AND adjust individual parameters at the same time, or do you just have to install a custom tune and leave it alone? The SCT seems to be the best one for mustangs, can you really plug it in a tune for A/F and timing for example after a dyno pull? We have a dyno near here that does runs with A/F for 45 1st run, and 25 for all others after that on the same day. I'm hoping to do my own custom tuning.

SCT Tuners allow you to change SOME parameters, but not ALL parameters. If you had access to all, you will **** your car up something fierce.

All that you are doing with an X-Cal2 is taking the base tune that we give you (we are an authorized dealer/programmer with the Advantage 3.0 Software) and modifying it to fit your needs a bit better. If you change your rear end gears after getting your tune, all you have to do is change the setting in the X-Cal, no need to get a brand new tune. Upload to your car, and bam, you're done.

Most of the time you dont need to change a thing on your tune on your own. We give you the tune as exact as we can get it based on the modifications that you have given us. If you go to any SCT liscenced dyno you can get a more exacting tune, but they will be the ones to adjust the parameters as they see fit. We already bump up your timing, adjust a/f, etc etc when you give us what you want done to the car, what you have done to the car, and what octane you are wanting the tune to run off of.

Its generally not a good idea to do ALL of your custom tuning unless you know EXACTLY what you are getting into. If you want to be able to adjust all paramaters, go to SCT and buy the Pro Racers package. You can adjust everying on the tune. However, if you dont know what you are doing, you will screw your car up completely.

Leave the tuning for a/f, timing, and so forth up to the dyno people and those who know WTF they are doing with the tuner and the software. Otherwise, you can kiss your engine goodbye.

I see what you're saying. I never wanted to change ALL parameters or even have access to them, just simple A/F adjustments and timing. Nothing I haven't been doing on Carbed cars for awhile. However, I think I'll just stay with a nice dyno tune. I don't see me changing tire sizes and rear gears very often.

The eaisest thing to do is get a mail order tune, program your car, and then take it to your dyno (so long as they are an SCT dealer). The base tune is all there, all your dyno has to do is just fine tune the programming to EXACTLY what the car needs, and then upload it to your car :)
