How do i install the gauge insert?

Ok, first off, this is the brushed aluminum gauge insert. It surrounds the gauges and gives a nice dressup, this is not the actual gauges themselves, you can find this on MT under the interior dressup items.

How the hell do i get this thing in?

So, i pulled off the front of my dash and i got the gauge cluster removed. No problem.

I brought it inside and tried to figure out how i am supposed to get this thing behind the plastic shield.

Low and behold, i pulled the front part off the gauge cluster and found much to my annoyance, that the plastic shield is permanantly attached to the black plastic part that surrounds the gauges, and the trip-reset button is a part of the whole thing too, starting on the rear black plastic part and poking through the clear shield.

So i thought, well crap. maybe this thing just sticks to the front of the clear shield? So i put everything back in and i tape the insert on the front of the shield and sure enough it looked like crap.

This thing, is cut and designed to be BEHIND the clear shield.

Anyone know how the hell you get it in there? the trip reset button makes it all but impossible to simply take off the shield assembly and slide it through the tac/spedometer holes because the trip-reset has to poke through it.

should i just grab the ol dremmel and cut off the clear shield off the face, put it in there, and epoxy it back on?

any help on this would be WAY appreciated.
