18" Front Wheels/Tires

I just ordered 2 of the 18x10 polished bullits to go on the rear of my 02 GT convt. I plan to run 295/45 tires on the rear.

What is the widest wheel and tire combo for the front of my car? I notice you carry 18x9's...

man do atleast 315 on the back and 275/35 to 295/35 on the front

venom 06-13-2005 05:00 PM

I think 45 is too tall.

Lances03SVT 06-13-2005 05:00 PM

I agree,I wouldnt go 295/45.At the most a 295/40 on the back but a 295/35/18 or a 315/35/18 would look the best.

venom 06-13-2005 05:25 PM

I use 295 35 in my 9" rim in the rear.

Nitto

I would like to run Nitto 555's, but not the drag radials. 18" 315's would be nice, but again I've not found any except the ultra pricey $400 - $500 each tires or drag radials. I found the 295's at Discount Tire in 18", but only in the 45 profile.

Anyone with suggestions would be very helpful. Otherwise, I guess I'll be running 285's in a 30 or 35 profile, or the 295's if they aren't too tall to fit.

on my car they would fit because of the raked look. and may a little more side wall would be good for drags

StangMan04 06-14-2005 09:57 AM

I got 265/35s up front and 295/35s out back

My thinking

My car is currently lowered about 1 1/4" all around. I wouldn't mind the back being a bit higher than the front - if they don't scrub. I really don't want them rubbing on anything.

they shouldn't rub. the only thing it may come close to is the damper shocks. but all you have to do is flip them so that the piston ehd goes down. i have like an inch or so of room both ways in the back with 275's so in theory i think you could as wide as 335mm to maybe 350

Are you running 18" wheels, though? I appreciate all the helpful hints, but I think a lot of the guys are running 17" wheels.

I know how to swap ends (or eliminate, if I go with the Steeda 5link I'm looking at) for the quad shocks - did that on a 88 LX I had slicks on once upon a time (still ended up with 1/4" steel spacers, though - rubbed on the fenders until I massaged them, too).

My real problem is finding street tires (but not drag radials) in the 315 size that AREN'T $500 each. Looks increasingly like the Nittos in 285 or 295 width.

265/35 & 285/35's here.

Lances03SVT 06-15-2005 01:23 PM

There are some tires out there that wont cost you that much for a 315.

Tire Sizes

I am getting ready to put new tires and wheels on mine as well and sounds like We are looking to do the same thing. I have researched 17, 18, and 19 inch combinations. But cost wise the 17s are the best way to go.

But as far as sizes. You can get a 285 under the front with some minor rubbing on hard turns, but a 275 really feels the well the best with no rubbing. 315 are a good size for a 10 inch wide rim and will fit fine. They are almost 14" wide.

I was looking to go with a 9" bullit on the front and a 10 or 10 1/2" bullit on the back and heres what I came up with as far as lowest price tires and tire sizes and brands. ( Tirerack.com )

Tire Prices

rim
f/17x9 bullit $185/18x9 bullitt $210/19x9 $500 no bullitt 19" this is an estimate
r/17x10 1/2 $195/18x10 $220/19x9 $500

tires
f/ 275/40/17 sumo HTZ $95/ 275/35/18 BFG Drag Radials $195/ 275/30/19 Dunlop $193
r/ 315/35/17 sumo HTZ $110/ 315/30/18 BFG Drag Radials $249/ 275/30/19 Dunlop $193 couldn't find a 315/25/19.

Final totals 17" set/$1170 18" set/$1748 19" set $2772

These tire sizes wont throw your speedo off either. The rim prices were for chrome wheels. I have since decided to go with black and the 17" combo.
$1000 all the way around.

Good Luck

Good Luck with the 17's

We have indeed been visiting the same sites - and coming up with the same numbers. The problem really happens when you move up from 17 to 18" wheels (I have the 2 18x10's sitting in the garage right now).

Just ordered the 18x9" polished Bullits for the front. Cost of the wheels (18x9 front and 18x10 rear) is about $750. I'll probably go with either the 315/30ZR18 Pirelli P-Zero's or Michellin Sport's ($339 each for the Pirreli's, and $359 each for the Michellins) and 275/35ZR18's on the front (about $185 each). Total will be around $1930 with installation. Wish I could find 315 series tires cheaper, but there are very few selections in this size. 285's are a lot easier to find and cheaper...

Thats one big rear tire, it would look something like this.

tripleblack 06-22-2005 07:25 AM

Compromised

Found a good 295/35-18 tire (Firehawk - OE on new Corvette Z6) at $189 each. Have also decided to keep old 17" wheels and run 315 drag radials on 2 of them to use when at the track.

Will post fotos when all is done. Wheels have arrived, expect tires Friday, maybe Monday next week.

28" wheels would be a record, eh? Almost pornographic...
