Not Pleased with New Headlights

2 Attachment(s)
Recently purchased a set of smoked clear corners from AM.com. First of all, I know you guys dont manufacture these things and you dont test-fit every part in your inventory. My disappointment is not with AM, simply the fitment of these lights.

Thats about 1/2" gap between the light and the fender. yes, its in there as far as it will go. When standing directly over it you can see the backside of the housing clear as day. First time any water gets back there........

Attachment 25145

Passnegers side isnt as bad but its still an eyesore.

Attachment 25146

While I wasnt expecting OE quality, I wasnt expecting the fitment of a square into a round hole. Again, my discontent is not directed at the good people at AM. You guys have done well by me in the past and Im hoping you will continue that trend.

I only installed these to test fit them, I havent driven anywhere with them installed yet. Is there anything AmericanMuscle can do? An exchange? Refund, store credit?

Please, contact me via replying in this thread, by PM, or calling me ( I will have to PM someone my #. I did not use my CC to order these, they were a gift from the queen).

Thank You

Of course we can do something! I'm sorry about this...that's certainly not what we expect from our manufacturers. Give us a call on Monday and we'll be happy to take care of you. If you talk to someone other than me and they give you trouble, tell them I said it was okay, or ask to speak to me.

PM me and let me know about when you'll be calling :)

Thank You! I will call Monday morning. I knew you guys would continue the great customer service.

Thank You Emilie!

One last thing.....I work for FedEx and get a very generous discount. Would there be any issue with me sending them out today? They could be there tomorrow or wednesday at the lastest. I would pay out of my own pocket and not ask for anything from AM.com. It wont cost me more than $10 would be more convenient for me. Just curious.

Thanks again.

You're welcome! And if you want to send them via FedEx, by all means, go for it! Whatever is easiest for you :) I know about that discount -- I used to work in the Boston call center :)

I just bought the same lights, and i have the same problem. The passenger side isn't as bad, but the driver's side is a good .25-.5 inch. Could i just load it with silicone? Or send it back?

Stan 07-23-2007 03:21 PM

I have the same lights and they leak like a mother! ive taken them off let them dry out re-silicone them and they still friggen fog up! its a shame because I really like them there just cheap and very poorly sealed!

Steeda97 07-23-2007 03:28 PM

So you have the gap too? I think i'm just going to take my chances on them, and just seal it as much as i can.

could they be leaking from where the light socket screws in on the back? bad o-ring there perhaps?

you could do a dunk test with them...seal the light socket hole and dunk the assembly...use a flashlight to see where the water is coming in.

might have to do that its just annoying how they come so poorly sealed from the factory, the factory glue is all over the place and some is even inside the lense that dripped down..

ya its gay i keep swapping them from the stock ones to the smoked ones because either one or the other keeps fogging up or getting filled with water :(
but i'll most likely do the water test and get to the bottom of it!

Give us a call -- we'll send you a new set. I'm not sure what's going on with these lights. We haven't had issues like this in the past. I'm having our purchasing manager look into this.

With all aftermarket lights, you should reseal them with RTV sealant before installing. Give us a call, and we should be able to do something for you.

i don't want to sound like a jackass. AM.com is the best around, but doesn't ANY of these companies (headlight companies) make a decent light that don't have to be fixed before they're put in? i mean seriously that's rediculous. i was considering gettin' aftermarket headlights but i've seen so many problems w/them on here i'd rather keep the stock ones. again, this isn't necessarily to AM, it's more to the shitty company(s)/craftmanship that make these lights.

Steeda97 07-26-2007 09:02 AM

Well i would guess that they don't have the exact specifications that Ford has when they make OEM headlights.

But besides that, AmericanMuscle.com is seriously the best place around for Mustangs, the customer service is unbelievable.

yea i'm not baggin' on AM at all. they kickass in every aspect of their business. i'm disappointed in the companies that make these lights, or at least teh ones that AM is dealing with. i think they could do a damn better job at it. i doubt the dimensions for a headlight are patented. i mean they can make damn near anything else fit like a glove, why not headlights? and it's sad that the headlight companies kinda force their dealers to tell the customers to reseal their brand new lights cause they can't make one wortha shit. buh.

Steeda97 07-27-2007 09:07 AM

I sent you a PM, Emilie.

I agree with you, but even the stock lights get sealed to death before being installed. It's the nature of headlights, honestly.

On my daily driver -- a Pontiac -- my factory headlights leak and condensate everytime it rains.

Yeah yeah yeah...saw that coming :-P

But hey, I'm getting almost 40 MPG with it, so I'm complaining too much.

Stan 08-02-2007 05:09 PM

my passengers side is ok but my drivers side will fog up like crazy from the humidity I have no idea were its coming from its driving me crazy I've sealed every possible area water could be coming in from!
