91 GT Won't start?
 

I've been mustang crazy for years, finally had the chance to buy another as a fixer upper. The car sat for 2 years. Fuel pump was out so it wouldn't start. Shot some gas in the intake and it fired right up. Also replaced fuel filter, clutch kit, flywheel, tranny. Now that i've got it all back together it still won't start. I turn it over, it will hit a few times and then just crank. Shut the key off, try again same thing. I hooked up a noid light to make sure the injectors are getting voltage and they are definiteley getting it, but I don't know where to go from here? What else could be wrong? Any suggestions? Check spark @spark plugs and coil, fuel pressure, if you used the trunk/hatch area as storage for parts/tools you might have tripped the FP inertia switch.....it happens. Let us know.

I did check the inertia switch before, but if wasn't tripped. I'll try back tommorrow, with results from plugs and or coil. It just sounded like something more than this. Thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted.

My plugs and my coil are both fine. Maybe it's a massive vacuum leak. Maybe i'm dreaming for it to be that easy. Don't know? Any other suggestions. I think it has to be stopped up maybe from the regulator in, but how do you test the regulator? How do you know if it is stopped up or not? :confused:

Did you check and make sure you have fuel pressure? (you should hear the pump "whir' when you kick the ignition into "on". Who installed your new fuel pump for you? There is a fuel relay under the drivers side seat that could be bad. See if you have current into the pump. If it fires up with a little gas in the intake, then your spark is fine. If it was a vacuum leak, it would run each time you started it but it would stall out. My guess is if the three (air, fuel or spark) it's fuel.

does it have a kill switch? I know me an my buddy tried to start his car for hours till we realised it was off.... but other than that i have no idea.

I thought of something else last night. The car sat for 2 years, did you look in the tank. If it was left sitting with less than a full tank in less than favorable conditions, the tank could be rusted on the inside. That will jam up your sock filter on the end of the pump and you will get no fuel. You might want to drop the tank and take a peak inside to put your mind at ease. If that is the problem, get a new tank, don't try the liner stuff. It's expensive and difficult to get to work (some People have been lucky with it, I have not)
