Speed Density

Would anyone know what exactly i would have to change to mass air for? My 88 Gt still has its speed density and i have put some minor mods on it like an American Thunder catback, and an MSD ignition coil. I was looking to put on Hooker Headers when i read that the mods im putting on wont be working properly with the speed density, so i wanna know how far can i go with modifications until its neccesary to convert to mass air?

You can go really far, I think. I'm not sure on the 88, but with 94-04's you pretty much have to turbo/supercharge before you'll need a bigger MAF.

Hes talking about changing his speed density setup to a maf setup. If you want to run good sized cams and start doing heads etc.. to actully make the car a lot faster you need to do the swap.

Oh, gotcha. Care to elaborate? I've never heard of that..

So for bolt ons my speed density will work fine, but its when i tear into my engine that i need to convert to maf?

As far as I know, yes. As for how far you can go mod wise before needing to switch, I don't know. If you're looking at high-flow headers, you'll probably need to do the swap, though.

Thanks. I guess i gotta get a 500 dollar conversion to maf

You can basically make all the mods you want except a big cam. I had a 86 Gt with SD and it had heads, intake, headers, all the bolt ons and then i eventually tried a E303 cam, Some say they have had good and bad luck with putting a E303 in a SD car, but crower also makes a cam just for this application. When i put the cam in i had a few drivability issues with the computer not knowing what to do, but at WOT it ran like a beast.
