octane: in a stock fox body

what is the gas thats suppose to go in these foxes, mines is a 1989gt. i always been putting 93 in it but i see these new mustangs run on 87 and my friend told me he used 87 in all of his foxes.

87 should be fine. There is no reason for you to need to run on 93 unless you have tuned your engine to use it.

mr triple six 04-28-2008 10:12 PM

well i run 93 cuz i dont know what the manufacturer wants in it so i wanted to be on the safe side

Dave04Mustang 04-28-2008 10:14 PM

pretty sure its 87

Dream 04-29-2008 04:23 PM

i gotta hijack the thread.........sorry

i use 89 for my 01 v6...dad uses 94 from sonoco for his camaro.
i thought it was like a standard that v4/i4 = 87, v6 = 89, v8+ = 91+

could i get away with the cheep stuff? what would it do to my engine if i went down a notch? if i had a v8 could i still use the cheep stuff?

Theres gotta be 5 threads all of a sudden on this same topic. People have already said in other threads Mach's and Cobra's get the premium (91/93). V6/GT (87). Owners manuals are good for this haha

Steeda97 04-29-2008 05:00 PM

Just put 87 in it, if it pings, go for a higher octane. lol. Chances are your cars tuned for 87.

What octane would you put in it if it had a v12? The number of cylinders doesn't have anything to do with it. It's all about the tune.

o well
the timing has been advanced i just forgot to post it in the original post. i dont even know how much me and my friend advanced it, but i can tell u one thing it pulled a bit nicer after we advanced it. the day we advanced it i kept on using 93 or sometimes 91. havent heard any pinging. im to scared to go to 87 :)

i think later on this week im going to drop it down to 89 octane

mr triple six 04-29-2008 07:31 PM

but when a friend says he put 87 octane in all of his foxes and hes been through about 5 foxes thats not something im taking to the bank ya know what i mean? he even said he stroked a fox and still used 87 octane.....now he owns no foxes. see what im saying?

I was saying that to Dream because his is an 01 thats why I quoted him. I wouldn't expect you to still have an owners manual :D

read the rest of the thread bro, lol

The number of cylinders has nothing to do with what octane to use. Its a matter of a/f ratios, timing, and compression is what determines what octane is needed. Your GT uses 87 if you have the timing bumped try 89 if it pings your stuck with 93 unless you put the timing back to stock to use the cheaper 87 gas.

817bigtex 04-30-2008 08:08 PM

Its 87 Octane, you can use 93 if you advance your timing.
