140psi on all cylinders dry test
no smoke on startup or cruising

is this normal at wot? what would be the cause of this?

SynisterMustang 07-09-2007 01:19 PM

Are you trying to say your tires are smoking? or the engine?

how long did you break it in before you started going WOT? more info?

r3dn3ck 07-09-2007 01:21 PM

where's the smoke coming from?

94IVGT 07-09-2007 04:32 PM

its blue smoke from the exhaust. im not burning oil any other time, no puff at startup or when cruising. theres about 900 miles on the motor

jeredan2003 07-09-2007 07:03 PM

you shouldnt be going WOT yet.....the rings need to be seated first

r3dn3ck 07-10-2007 08:26 AM

yeppers.. that's the most likely cause. ring seal isn't complete. be nice to it..then flog it.

spike_africa 07-10-2007 03:56 PM

what kind of rings did you use? me freind and i just built his 327ci chevy with a brand summit racing carries, i forget the name i wanna say seal pro but i will have to find the box. Anyhow it smoked like a bitch and had shitty psi on compression test we swapped out the rings with good ones now its 180psi in all and no more smoke and more power.

94IVGT 07-11-2007 12:32 AM

they were sere sealed power rings

r3dn3ck 07-11-2007 08:32 AM

what's the gap and how much boost when the smoke starts coming out?

94IVGT 07-11-2007 10:51 AM

machine shop installed so i dont know gap, smoke starts at about 6-8lbs

cobra1923 07-12-2007 05:48 AM

Sure it's blue?
Could be black maybe?

What type of fuel management do you have? If you're running a FMU it could be running too rich when boost comes on?

r3dn3ck 07-12-2007 08:53 AM

Good point... if it's pulling that rich it would probably look a bluish grey to black (depends on how rich) and if it's waaaaaay rich it could well be washing down the cylinder walls and burning the oil that solvates off them allowing a bluish-white smoke to emit but not in especially large volumes. In any case, to be of much more help you'll need to see someone up close and personal that is familiar with such things.

its deffinately oil. Rick at anderson ford told me to take the oil cap off and put a breather on so i did, and that fixed the smoke at wot problem for a few days, now yesterday it blew the breather out and started spewing oil out the valve cover.

trystrom 07-18-2007 01:30 PM

Need to do a leakdown test and figure out where that engine is leaking down--that will tell ya where that oil is getting in at.
