HELP!! Need charge!

I have a 87 GT. I put it away for the winter and once/twice a month I would start it up and let it run out for a bit. Today, after a month, I started her up and the battery gauge was in teh middle like there was no charging going on. I ended up driving the car then parked it for 15-30mins while running and noticed that the battery gauge was going down very very slowly. I shut the car off and heard the click-click. I went and got an alt. but it was the wrong fit. The battery, Alt were replaced just before winter. I m going to get another Alt. but I m afraid its not the problem cause that d be too easy. Its this comon and can someone tell me what to check for (Wires) and where their located?

I need to get her running in the next few days.

just take off your old one and take it up to an auto parts store and they should test it for free. Actually they wil test both your battery and alternator for you. Then you will know which is the bad one.

Get a new sylenoid (sp). The same thing happened to my car and that's what was wrong with it other than the battery freezing up during the winter.

Yea, I got the alternator checked out and they tested it 3 times. All was good. My uncles truck actully died today and it was the battery too. I m gonna take the battery back to seat (Die Hard). I know it was sitting in our warehouse which was very cold. Hopefully thats what took a dump. The battery is like a few months old but I know that dosen;t matter. Will keep ya guys posted. ThanX!!

autozone can check the alt and battery with it on the car. if you get an experienced guy that can prolly tell you if its the solenoid by sound.

Brain fart. The solenoid is where and how much. I tryed looking the part up on Autozone with no luck.

How do I test the starter solenoid and can that really not allow the battery to recharge?

This is what it looks like...

It should be mounted on the fender just behind your battery. The starter wire and positive battery cable hooked to it.

Check the solnoid by turning the key to run and touch a plastic handle screwdriver to both post on the solnoid. If you cant find it follow your positive battery cable to the solnoid. Also check your regulator which is located underneath the solnoid.

bossnutt you rule. I got a new battery after if failed. Went and replaced it but still no charge. I did buy a new starter solenoid just in case. I put it on thinking the worst and sure enough my needle on the gauge went up. Thanx alot.
