Replacing water pump?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm not a Ford guy, so what's the process of removing the waterpump on my 93 GT? I've done this before to Chevy's, but never attempted to do it on a Ford before. Just a little note, a mechanic friend told me he'd replace the pump, lower hose and do a full flush for $200 bucks. Would it better to let him do it, or can I save a ton from 200, to do it myself?

belt comes off, fan and shroud, ac bracket (if equipt), hoses, pump, clean stuck gasket and install new and reassemble, fill with antifreeze water mix. $200 Id do myself!! good luck

Cool, will a water pump from Advance or Autozone be ok to use? Later on, way down the line, I plan to rebuild the engine, then I'll add some performance parts. So, would one from either of them be fine for now?

I wouldn't waste my money on a rebuilt pump unless you enjoy doing a job more than once. I'd used either a Ford OEM unit or an Edelbrock.

you can do it, its a piece of cake. no different then a chevy. drain the radiator, loossen the hoses, then pull the belt and 4 fan bolts and drop the fan down the bottom of the shroud gently. then pull the 2 bolts for the radiator support and pull the radiator/shroud/over flow tank all as one unit. then pull the stuff you have too, if the car has AC you will have to remove the 3 or 4 nuts that hold some of those brackets on. its not a bad deal to do at all. deff worth $200 for me to do it myself...

autozone pump will be fine, just do not get the valuecraft. go with a new duralast for like $35.

changing a water pump aint any different from motor to motor...

its kind of like tires... lol...

can't really **** it up

Be careful when losing the bolts to the water pump because they can snap and trust me it sucks. Make sure you put liquid telfon on water pump bolts when you put the bolts back in.

Well, everything was fine, until an hour or so ago..... I got the old pump off, no probs, cleaned off the old gasket, put the new pump on and then after I snugged all the bolts down and broke out the torque wrench, things went for the worse... :( Torque wrench was working so-so, (I don't like the ones like I have, but it's all the store had, when I needed one several years ago). Anyway, got them all torqued down and the last bolt snapped off in the damn block! Geeeez, I'm so pissed off right now, it isn't funny. So then, I started to remove the timing chain cover and didn't have a puller big enough for the harmonic balancer... I hope there's enough thread sticking out, whenever I get the cover off, so I can try to back it out. This would be a great time to replace the timing chain, along with some other parts I was gonna replace later on, but, of course at this time, I don't have any extra money, damnit!

Just an update, got the waterpump installed, along with everything else behind it. Ordered a smog pump eliminator last week. So, when it gets here, I will fill up the rad. and hopefully, have no leaks? Cause getting to the pump is a pain in the ASS!

yeah you tell me. I had to take everything off to get to the bolt then it snapped more and i had to drill and tap the bolt.

yah... it can be a pain... you gotta yank all the shit in front of the motor

Well, Ford strikes again! I don't like the way the thermostat goes in and I thought I had it in there correctly Tuesday night but, hell no. Fired up the car, antifreeze goin everywhere, from the bottom of the stat housing. Anyway, got that fixed last night, fired up the car and the heater-to-wp hose had a constant drip. So, if Autozone doesn't have one today, I'll guess I'll be ordering a new online for 18 bucks!
