Very first thing you can do is bump the timing its free. You need to get a timing light and then you move the distributor and bump the timing up to say 13* would be a good place to start at. This will add a bit of power for free.

Then i would get a mid pipe. This is the peice of exhaust that connects the motor to the mufflers. It simpley unbolts and can be replaced with one with highflwo cat's (for use if your car must pass an emissions test) or one that has no cats (off-road they call it). They are noramly 2.5" so it lets it breath easier. that would be were i start because its so cheap and can be doen by yourself.

might wanna give it a tune up before doing anything. bump the timing like spike_africa said. pulleys, exhaust, and of course gears. ive been told that outta all bolts on ur gonna feel the gears more than anything else. i dont know, cuz i havent decided on a gear yet. but i think most people will agree to go with a 3.73 or 4.10s.

I would change plugs, plug wire, cap and rotor and run a can of seafoam first then gears and exhaust and a shifter.
