I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned yet.
So a few weeks ago Antron Brown crashed his dragster. The tire came off and went into a spectator area and killed a fan. Antron was alright but a little shaken up. The video doesn't show the tire hitting the fan, just the crash.
As a drag racer I always cringe when things like this happen, granted I dont go all that fast, but it is still in a racing family. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_470963.html |
Yeah, I saw the broadcast.. I knew by how the announcers were dodging what actually happened that something bad had hapened. It's sad, but that's part of the risk you take by going to any event that involves racing of any kind.
I was watching a motoX race the other night and the bike nearly jumped into the crowd, that could have been really bad.. |
It really is amazing that this doesn't happen more in a lot of motorsports. I have thought about it happening alot at the track with all of the explosions/crashes that can happen but never really see it happen (thankfully)

Yea, I dont watch nascar but I saw that one... it was a scary video. The safety precautions are honestly amazing with some of the things that have happened. Even on small local tracks. It saves so many lives

I was there when Eddie Hill flipped his dragster at Pomona. He flew by me at 300+miles per hour sticking straight up in the air. I was pretty sure his car was going to join us in the stands but it just went straight back over. Luckiest day of my life I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prgoHGbjf2s at 2:35 they play a clip of his 1989 Pomona record (first man to cross the stripe at 300+ on 2 wheels) smashing crash. |
That happened to Shelly Anderson at Brainerd in 96. It happened right in front of us. She wasn't going as fast because it was around the 1/8 that it started but it was still crazy to witness. I was rather young, it is one of the first races i actually remember vividly seeing.
