You were so fast on the first one the camera could not keep up.
Sounded like you spun pretty good on the first one, you planning on getting some sticky tires?
If not I used to run my street tires between 18-20 psi and they hooked a little better. Make sure you have only 1/8 - 1/4 tank of gas, pull out the spare, jack, floor mats anything not bolted down. Don't do a burnout just spin them a couple times to get them clean. Drive around the water box so your fronts don't drag any water to the line. Practice feathering the clutch out so you can launch at a higher rpm. Make sure you are not short shifting that will kill your time and trap speed. Take off the rear wing and the front sway bar. If you are feeling up to it yank the back seat out also, it only takes 5-10 minutes. You can also pull the headlight for a little ram air action. All that will get you 2-3 mph and maybe a tenth or two, lol. But desperate men take desperate measures.
Also put your front tires to 45 psi also. Good luck!

dannyb785 05-22-2005 11:41 AM

dude...there's no way imma take out my seats, headlight, spoiler, sway bar, or any of that crap. every magazine around has these things at low 14's easy at stock and with my setup(and brand new tires which were at 18 psi that night), I would really expect to get low 14's without removing anything. I'm just really sucking at my launch, and I will NOT power shift either. whats wrong with short shifting? I know it will not be a matter of 14.2 and 14.9. I just want someone else to try in it and see what they can get.

MattJ 05-22-2005 01:34 PM

You are spinning alot which is bad. Also your headlight is removed in 15 seconds by pulling 2 holding bars up. Goes in just as fast...
Ive got the same problem with not being able to hook. Im trapping at 100, 60' times are 2.6x and im running 14 flat.

dannyb785 05-22-2005 01:35 PM

how the hell do u get 14 flat? My 60' times are 2.3-2.4 and im not breaking 14.9.

WaterDR 05-22-2005 02:39 PM

Goal on street tires should be 2.0's...course some guys can get 1.9's and even a few 1.8's, but 2.0 should be your goal. Get a 2.0 and your good to go. That will carve 0.6 ++ from your quarter mile time.

You need to relax...let me share a story with you:

There are two bulls sitting up on a hill over looking a valley filled with a dozen or so cows. One bull is old and his name is Dean (aka Blue02GT). Another bull is a young stud who has yet to break in a cow and his name is Danny.

The young bull (Danny) with a grin from ear to ear says "hey old man, what do you say I go charging down that hill and screw all them cows?"

The old bull (and shorter one) says: "You go right ahead young stud, I am gonna cruise down the hill and nail each of them cows one at a time."

Well, the young stud after charging down that hill was soo tired he croaked while making his way with the second cow....while Dean enjoyed each one and then had the whole lot to himself.

Slow and steady wins the race (and get's the cows).

Don't try to win the race in the first 60 feet...ease off that clutch and if you begin to loose traction push in on it until the tire grip again.

If you don't feel like yanking everything out of the car, at least remove the headlight. I am actually hesitant to tell you to empty the trunk as the added weight may be to your advantage until you can learn to hook-up better.

Blue03gt 05-22-2005 02:50 PM

if you would only SHIFT faster you could run a 14.4-14.5 with that 60ft .... learn how to launch, lower your 60ft to arund 2.0 and you should see real low 14's and maybe high 13's

Blue02GT 05-22-2005 03:09 PM

Okay Dan here's the scoop.
#1 - MMFF ran a 14.00 flat with a 02 with about 2,000 miles on it bone stock. This was by dropping the tire pressure, removing the front sway bar and pulling everything out of the trunk. They removed the silencer and pulled the left front headlight. The editor who did this can flat drive like a fool, most guys would be lucky to hit 14.3's in a stone stock 99-04 2v.
#2 - Short shifting has nothing to do with powershifting. Short shift means shifting too early as in 5,400 rpm. With a stock or near stock 2v PI motor you should shift about 5,800 1-2 and 5,600 2-3 & 3-4.
#3 - Matt has 3.90 gears which are much better than the stockers.
#4. I'm just trying to help you so don't cop an attitude. You asked what you need to do, if are too lazy than keep getting beat by Honda's and Buicks.
#5. I have done all of these things and they do work. I have the sway bar and spoiler off permenantly so it's not a big deal. The back seat comes out with 7 bolts and 10 minutes time. I can send instructions on how to do this if you want to try it sometime.

Most of all get lot's of practice in at the track and you will improve. Most people start by running high 14's to low 15's. When I first took my 02 to the track I had not raced in over 25 years. I could get no better than a 14.3 with an automatic, it took some time to figure out what I could and could not do with this car.

My runs are without my gears. Infact my gears are still in the box in the garage.

They work better installed.

Did you pull a 2.3 60 foot or below? If you did I think you really need to work on shifting quicker, and making sure your on the gas all the way down the track.

With a 2.22 60 foot I ran a 13.95 @ 98.81 with an O/R H pipe and K&N filter. Hopefully next time I can launch it better and take out my headlight and see 13.8x if not 13.7x

video will be back up soon, bandwith is increasing, didnt know it would be that bad.

Just saw the vid. Can't really tell about wheel spin, but there is way too much time between shifts. I should not be able to hear the rpms drop soo much. I am actually hearing the exhaust note whine down between shifts. After hearing that, I would say you have some time you could easily pickup.

on that second run, I actually made a 2.299 on my 60' even with the extra wheelspin, and i think i f'ed up the shift bc i was so excited about the good launch.

and MT, I did notice the time between shifts istoo long so I defintely need to practice that. thanks for the friendly feedback

Hey!! its like most of the guys said you probably need to practice on the shifting Iam sure your car has a 14 sec. run in it these 4.6s are finiky when it comes to shifting, got to find that sweet spot! and Iam like you I dont like to got thru all that taking it apart even though its a good way to reduce weight! OH! and I dont power shift either! I drive my car 35 miles to one of the tracks the other is over 85miles so I can't be without some of those ammenities! :laughing3 Iam in Colorado 5000ft. above sea level and I was doin 15.0s - 15.1s, my 18yr old son (at the time) ran it after my two runs NO COOL down and busted 14.98 car had a MAC Catback, MAC cold air and FMS pullies! at its present state the car does mid 14s all day long up here on the motor! and I even managed to do it! :laughing1
