mufflers

I'm getting ready to get an exhaust system and im looking for a muffler that has a mellow to slight deep tone what would you guyz reccomend.

buddyabe 02-08-2005 06:13 PM

I have Flowmaster super 40 mufflers and they sound very deep and drone under light engine loads. I have had great luck with the goerlich excellerator turbo mufflers, they outflow dynomax and most other brands, they don't cost much and they have a great sound. Check out article below

what do the super 40's sound like under full load?

buddyabe 02-09-2005 07:48 AM

my car sounds great under full throtle acceleration,it gets loud, even with the stock H-pipe and convertors. The car doesn't drone and resonate as much under full throtle as they do at partial throtle. I have mixed emotions about the flowmasters. My wife and neighbors hate them!(they rattle their windows)I may have to replace them witha quieter turbo muffler when I install a aftermarket X-pipe. I belive the v6 engine will drone and resonate much worse than the v8 and will not sound good with flowmasters. I have heard that the inexpensive 20.00 dollar turbo mufflers from Summit Racing are quiet but flow good.

in my opinion, flowmasters sound terrible on v6's... spintech's with stock cats and headers sound awesome though :icon_thum

jon3sgte 02-09-2005 10:23 AM

i am going to be running long tube headers and off road h-pipe. i want my car to be as loud as possible, but still sound good.

buddyabe 02-09-2005 10:27 AM

you may want to try a Borla if you want loud that still sounds good or the Dyno max race turbo wich is a straight thru design similar to a glass pack but flows better.

jon3sgte 02-09-2005 10:42 AM

the borlas arent as deep as the flowmasters. i wish i could here all of these ona v6.

LT's and off road H's make a 6 sound like a lawn mower stuck in a tin can.

jon3sgte 02-09-2005 12:19 PM

should i go with short tube headers then?

2000blackone 02-09-2005 12:21 PM

what's wrong with you stock ones? ;)

tedinde 02-09-2005 12:25 PM

Ive had 8 different mustangs since 1984, Flowmasters, walker dynomax, California turbo, Borla, Hooker, even some Cherry Bombs on a old mustang. I love the Magnaflows on here the best. Nice rumble @ idle. Loud when u get on it. On the highway no drone, and actually quieter than anything else ive had.

Id buy them on my next car and thinking about them for my truck

buddyabe 02-09-2005 02:33 PM

The magnaflow cat back system was just installed on a 05 GT by MD MOTORSPORTS and they found ZERO horsepower or torque gained compared to the stock exhaust system in before and after dyno tests. See article segment.

The last thing added was the Magnaflow catback. Once we got the car up on the lift and saw the stock exhaust, I was pretty sure that there was not much chance for a horsepower increase. The stock system was already 2.5" and looked fairly smooth. The connections are now slip fittings so changing out the exhaust was fairly simple. The dyno verified what we had expected. Although the car sounds much better, there were zero gains in horsepower and torque. This was not really a disappointment because the new catback sounds much better and has very nice looking tips.

what about sticking glass packs on after the mufflers?

spike_africa 02-09-2005 03:14 PM

my buddy is going to be using long tubes and h-pipe with macs or maybe magnaflows i wil get a clip in about 2 weeks lol, when i put a new 3.8 in it.

jon3sgte 02-09-2005 03:37 PM

a sound clip would be great.

p3s7_01 02-09-2005 09:57 PM

If that magnaflows have 0 hp increase on the 05's that just means that Ford has some high quality parts out now :)

Quikstang01lx 02-13-2005 07:09 PM

i have borla.....and i love it.

It is not loud at idle, and under acceleration it sounds great.

I had flowmasters on my 93 2.3L stang.....WAYY to loud and annoying

spike_africa 02-13-2005 07:15 PM

I odnt know about you but i just put long tubes on a V6 today what did you do?

jon3sgte 02-14-2005 07:06 AM

how do you like the long tubes? how do they sound?

spike_africa 02-14-2005 07:25 AM

they arent on my car i have a GT. but i am doing a swap on my buddys 94 v6 were putting a 2000 split port headed v6 in it. with a procharger and long tubes h-pipe ported intake cam etc... shooting for over 300rwhp. I'll make another thread later on tonight and post a few pics we took while doing the swap. right now i have the old motor out and we are setting up the new motor up for the blower and adding the long tubes etc...

The1Neo 02-20-2005 08:59 PM

i have a question
out of these 2 exhaust systems, which will make my v6 sound more like an 8?

A flowmaster force II http://www.lmperformance.com/4337/50.html

or

Mac Cat-back http://www.mustangwarehouse.com/must...gory_Code=38J6

thanks in advance!

At idle it may sound like a V8 but under hard acceleration you will know its not. Same way a V10 on a viper sounds different than a v8.
