Yikes? Changing spark plugs on the V6??
 

Hi guys, You pulled through great last time I asked a question. Lets see if you dont mind helping me again!?

I got some new spark plugs for my car - a 2000 mustang as they need replaced. I do most of the work on my car myself but took a look at where the plugs were on my engine and it looks horrible to get to. Am I right? I'm guessing it may just be easier to put it into a shop to get done or am i missing something?

Changing spark plugs on almost any eninge isnt too bad...i've done it on my sisters V6 she has a 2000 as well....its ok if you have the tools you need...do it yourself and save the money

Do you try and go up from underneath or down from the top? I could barely even see the back two plugs..?

You just have to get creative. If you are handy with tools, I'd say do it yourself. If you don't know much about spinning wrenches, pay to have it done. I've never changed plugs on a new stang but you'll prob need some extensions and swivels.

its not hard to do at all. just some working your hands around. i have also done it a 003.8

Just take your time and you'll do okay. Make sure you gap them right if they don't already come pre-gapped. :)

dude you really should just do it yourself. There is no reason not too. Just realize that it will probably take you about 3- hours to do. And while doing this you should just go down to your nearest autoparts store and buy a new set of spark plug wires. Cuz if your plugs are bad then your wires are going to be next. Might as well kill two birds with one stone. If you really need help you should go down to kragen and check out the manuals they have on your kind of car. They have all the ways to take out spark plugs.

Changing plugs on your car is a snap. Once you have got the hang of it its quick and easy. I can do it on my v6 in about 30 minutes. The driver's side of the motor is relatively easy to get at, just have to dodge the dipstick mount. For the passenger side you have to remove the intake tube, and you can get at the plugs fairly easy, you just have to dodge the tube for the egr. Also don't forget to set your gaps.

I'd say for the first time depending on how careful you are and how much trouble you have manuvering your ratchet around obstacles, id give about 2hrs or so give or take to gap and put in your plugs. Plug wires may be necessary as well as lizard said, mine as well do it all at once. Btw plugs are plugs, don't go spend 15 bucks a plug for some fancy japanese plugs. I've used autolites forever and had no problems.

Ran across your forum and glad that I did as I have been contemplating on replacing my plugs for quite sometime. Based on what you all have posted seems pretty easy. I am also having to replace a radiator as the one I have has been deemed bad y a mechanic. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Changing plugs can be troublesome on the back of the engine but thats about it. I'm changing mine soon too. I havent changed them since 2008 but I think u have to take the intake tubing off and the plug wires, I think thats all. After that make sure u use a spark plug socket with the rubber on the inside and start removing them!

Changing a radiator is so easy I'd rather change 10 of those than change my spark plugs! If I remember correctly its only held in by pieces of rubber.
