Default Porting Intake Question...

How difficult is it to have someone port an Intake? Upper and Lower... Is it something you can do yourself, how hard is it? And how much would it cost?

Also do you need to get a new tune inorder to keep the engine working properly?

I snipped this from Diablosport's FAQ... hope it helps.

What modification changes generally require a retune, and what modifications do not?

Modifications that may, or do require, a full or partial retune:

- MAF (Mass Air Flow): i.e. swapping the stock electronics to a different housing (generally not ideal), upgrading to a MAFia, BA2400, or MAFX, and/or changing the location of your MAF (not ideal at all). Also, the most important thing that would warrant a necessity of upgrading to a MAFia, BA2400, or MAFX, is if you are saturating (pegging) the electronics at 5v. It is very dangerous to have a pegging meter, and it is just as dangerous to attempt to tune for one. RWTD generally will NOT tune a vehicle with a pegging meter! You can NOT change out your MAF, or add in a MAF extender device (MAFia, MAFX), without a retune.
- Air Intakes (i.e. CAI, RAI, etc.): Changing these can, at times, drastically alter your tune, due to the effect they can have on the MAF, especially the new systems that relocate the MAF into a different location/position from factory.
- Fuel Injectors: Changing to any set of fuel injectors that are different than your current injectors. You can NOT change out injectors without a retune, period.
- Forced Induction (Supercharger, Turbo, Nitrous): Adding a supercharger, upgrading to a new blower, or changing boost levels, generally requires a new tune. Adding a turbo(s) will obviously require a new tune. Using nitrous will obviously require a nitrous specific tune.
- Gears and/or Torque Converters - Some of these can already be adjusted for with your Predator's end-user options.
- DTC and Emission Controls deletion (for off-road use only!) - Some of these can already be disabled with your Predator's end-user options.

Please note, RWTD Ford tunes already disable the ability of the pcm to trigger an SES or Check Engine light from having off-roads or high-flow cats (for off-road use only, lol). This means you will not have to request a retune should you upgrade to such. Currently, RWTD tunes for GMs only disable the ability of the pcm to trigger an SES or Check Engine light at the request of the customer. Doing such will not cause you to fail an emissions scan test.

These types of modifications, and similar ones, warrant new and full effort by the tuner to properly adjust for them. Naturally, when upgrading your modifications, use common sense. There is more to it than this, and it would require writing pages upon pages to explain. If you are in doubt about the specific differences a modification could make for your tuning state, please do not hesitate to ask.

Modifications that generally do not require a retune (when it doubt, ask!):

- Exhaust: Components such as Catbacks, and H or X-Pipes.
- Supercharger pulley changes: If the tune was designed for a specific window range of pulley sizes, and your MAF is not pegging, you should not need a new tune. RWTD will make every effort to inform the customer of the pulley size range their tune can safely operate within. When it doubt, ask!
- Heat Exchanger Upgrades
- Underdrive Pulleys
- Air filter changes: i.e. not entire air assembly kit, but instead a switch from a 9" to a 10" conical filter.
- Electric Fan(s)
- Sparkplugs
- Bling Bling (lol)
- Tires: Although you can easily adjust your end-user options for a tire size change, if you are having trouble doing such then RWTD will not charge for this, as long as it isn't a constant request.

Good luck if you're going to do it yourself. Remember just gasket match the runners don't go too big.
