v6 vs GT price
 

I often see in these forums that one should save the money modifying a 6er and get a GT instead. Sounds like a logical idea...so I decided to look into this matter and see if it was feasible for me.

Where do you guys who recommend the GT get your figures? I just got a v6 in late august (a 2005 model...premium so it's really nice). My dad helped me out with the cost, and the total was 21,000 bucks. I did not get a GT because there was only ONE in the lot (at a VERY large Ford dealership) and it was a yellow, auto, convertible.

So I got "stuck" with the 6er. I looked at an auto-trader magazine today and saw a 2005 GT for sale, USED for 29,000. Now that's a HUGE difference. If someone like me was to purchase the 6 for 21k, and get nitrous (say 1000 total installed), they would have a really nice power step-up.

If I sold my car now, I have no idea what I would get for it, but obviously somewhere under 21000. Even if I wanted a new GT with nothing posh on it, it would cost around 26000. AND it's harder than hell to find a GT at a dealership. I asked if I could order one (back in august) and the owner of the dealership told me I would have to wait till January.

So I just don't see how it all economically works out to sell a 6 and buy a GT.
Can anyone fill me in on it?

It really isnt. The only reason to buy a gt would be if you really want to make alot of power+they do sound alot better. With a 7,000 dollar saving you could add enough performance to satisfy alot of everyday car drivers.

I also think that they were talking more about a used GT vs. a new V6, with a 2000+ GT in good condition, low miles, etc. costing 12k or less, and a new V6 costing around 20k base.

Yea most arguments are just go buy a used GT. My dad and I wanted a NEW car that if anyone was going to mess it up it was going to be us. I love my sixer and will never get rid of it for ANYTHING! And I guess I got lucky because we got my 99 in 99 for 15K well it was a high 15 almost 16 but still :cool:

wow same here! EXactly the same! sept i'm a 03. But my parents weren't guna buy me a used car, wouldn't have made sense, because the 4k you save you could loose if you get a lemon...people only sell cars they don't want. But yeah 15.5 in 2003...was an amazing deal...

As for the compare, I think most people talk about swaping out the V6 for a 4.6 or 5.0... thats what they all say, Do it and it's cheaper, but even if the engine is 2000k and u get it lucky, you gotta buy everything that comes with it, new rear and maybe a new clutch, some other things, and the labor costs, it's probably upwards of 4-5 grand alone, without any mods on the engine...hell is it really worth it in the end...thats anyone guess.

That is what the new car salesmen wants you to believe. While there is certainly some truth to that, most people sell what they can't afford to keep. This happens a lot too. You know, that $400 a month payment seems like a good idea at the time, then maybe a speeding ticket or two later, or the guy can't get as many hours working at the local Taco Bell anymore, or the parents make him get rid of it, etc...

Best value bar-none is buying a used car. I have bought both and will most likely continue both options again in the future. All depends on the car and how long you plan on keeping it.

Most people that buy new pay thousands of dollars for the new car smell or they are worried about warrenties on used ones.

Yeah you can get lucky and get a great deal, but there is a reason American cars have a lower resell value. People just beat them to death and wonder why they have problems. That and I don't like pickin up someone elses seconds if I don't have too. Even if a person has to get rid of the car before it's paid off or what have you, it's how they drove the car when they had it. I personally would never drive a Mustang owned by a teenage driver. why because i know people that age don't know how to shift properly, or think they can gun the engine everywhere they go.

My friend's camaro is a great example of this. Previous owner was an older guy who got rid of his V6 Camaro to get an SS. Well it drove fine no problems. My friend picks it up, all of a sudden the clutch is going bad. His tire tread is low, the gears grind, when you throw it into reverse it Grinds like crazy. It over rev's. There are a bunch of problems with it.

Point and case, I don't trust anyone else's driving.

It's all how you buy...I bought my 2004 Premium GT in September of 04 for around $21,500. I waited until the right rebates came along, and it was the end of a model year so I got a better price. But it was brand new (8 miles) and LOADED for $500 more than yours.

MSRP is just that..SUGGESTED...Just b/c you see $29,000 on the window sticker doesn't mean you pay $29,000....My 04 stickered for $27,XXX...



The deal is you are spending money to equal the power of a GT...and in doing so voiding your warranty and killing your resale. It takes a special buyer to want a modded mustang, the general public does not want something someone has ran the crap out of....

So instead of spending the cash to make your car look like, sound like, and run like a GT...just buy the GT?

By the way, I had two V6 mustnags, modded the crap out of them, and wish I would have just bought a GT from the start...hindsight here, but I know where you are coming from...


The Percentage of depreciation for a GT vs V6 is a huge disadvantage for V6's here. People are not in the market for used V6's as they are for used GT's....

In all honest it really matters what you wana do with your car?...For me I Don't plan on sellingit, eventually many many years down the road when the engine runs outa gas I'ma throw something else in there, so for me I don't care about resale, I also don't care about Speed as much. I'd rather look good right now while funds are low. There are so many other cars out there that are faster then your V6, V8 or Cobra that you may find yourself in trouble just tryin to keep up. Don't get me wrong i'm not afraid of speed, I just really don't wana spend 10 grand on engine and random stuff just to say I beat someone when my parents are payin 26k a year to pay for my colllege...?I'm happy wit what I got, and I also have a special bond with my car.

I could not agree with you more....I really want a new Shelby GT500....but with a 10 month old and a mortgage, REAL LIFE takes priority...

but you have a yellow mustang now u just have to get the gt500

also i have my 99 v6 and i like it allot i dont need tons of speed because i will get in to much trouble i want my car to look and sound good is all

Only problem with a 6er is it will always sound like crap no matter what ya do to it.

wtf are u talking about get outs hear v6 can sound real mean here are 2 examples

95 v6 mustang with a mac catback ( sounds so mean louder then most v8's)

you can out a v8 exhaust on a 99-04 v6 say go full slp exhaust on a v6 and it will sound real mean not as loud or w\e as a v8 but not crappy v6's can be very loud

I have never heard a V6 I thought sounded good.....EVER. I also have never heard a V6 that i didnt know it was a V6, and I deffinately never raced a V6 I didnt know was a V6...lol

Should have a law making it illegal to put dual exhaust anything less than a V8.

pretty sure we will just have to prove you otherwise.
