Question Strut Tower Brace

I was thinking of buying a Strut tower brace for my 2000 V6, and i was wondering what is involved with the install. Anything complicated; that i couldn't do in my garage? Thanks

There is the hard way and the easy way. The hard way requires you to drill a few holes and then place the bolts through the holes. This means having to tighten a nut from the underside of the wheel well which is virtually impossible with the wheels still mounted and the car on the ground. This is how I did mine, and I would never do it this way again. However, this is probably the best way to ensure that it is tight.

The easy way is to thread and tap the holes from the top and then just screw in the bolts.

How did you attach it to the fire wall? I just bought a chrome one from Brother's and I was skimming the directions and it looks like a pain in the ***. I might wait till after the header install cause the engine has to be lifted to do them.

The hard way that Blake described is the right way. Not really enough steel in the strut towers for tapping threads into for that kind of application. Taking the wheels off would be easiest. I jacked my car up till the wheels were off the ground and that gave me enough room to get to the back of the fenderwells. Also, I put the bolts in from the back of the fenderwell so you you can just thread the nuts on from the top and just hold the bolt underneath. Make sure you use at least grade 8 hardware. Also, I coated all the mating surfaces with rubberized paint to keep from scratching up the surfaces.

I just got the BBK brace. How did you attach the front to the firewall? and how long did the install take?

I have the same one only black. Did come with the extra trapezoid shaped plate? I used that and bolted it to the lip on the firewall that is rolled out towards the motor. You can bolt it right to the firewall but I have heard of few cracked windshields from autoxers and chose not to do it that way. Plus that was easier.

Did you have to remove and cut the plastic cover and how did you attach the nut to the bolt...I didn't remove the plastic piece, are you able to get to the bolt on the other side of the firwall...and yes It did come with the extra plate...on sale for 60 bucks so I figured what the hell.

I took a couple of the screws that the plastic cover had in out and dremeled the bottom of it where I bolted the plate but it was minimal. Didnt have to remove anything though. Im pretty sure you can get to other side of firewall if you remove the wiper cowl. Saw it done in magazine. Wish i got mine for $60

OK...cool, if I need to take it off...for a header install, is it a pain in the *** or would it be easy to put back on? I'm debating whether or not to install it this week or wait till my headers are done.

If your doing headers soon, Id just wait. Its not too bad once you have it installed, just takes time to unbolt and rebolt it. Id allow at least a couple hours for the initial install.

I'm pretty impatient, it might be more than a month till I get the headers installed cause I'm gonna wait till I have my Magnapacks.

I pulled the cowl off to do mine. Used a swival to hold the nut in place. Funny thing is that I dropped a nut and have a nut under my cowl somewhere.

Nah don't say that, I mean all bolt ons are guna take a little bit of effort, CAI is probably the easiest, i mean the strut bar is just a bolt on, nothing to do with the engine persay...and it's CHEAP! i got mine off Ebay for 50 shipped...it was a Steeda...
