2011 base v6 VS 1999 Lightly modded GT

as it states...went over to one of my mustang friends home to help him install some lowering springs and shocks, and we decided we needed to check them out by racing my sixxer..

My car = bone stock Auto base model, 2:73 gearing

His =Auto 1999 GT P.I. - CAI, Exhaust, 75mm plenum & TB, lowering springs, wider tires and a tune I think

Right off the bat he got a slight jump...but matched very shortly..through 40's, then came on the 50's i started walking away...mid 60's my engine was waking up, and left him behind..

1/8th mile pass info = 60' - 2.313 , 330 - 6.413, 9.758 seconds @ 74.93
Nothing too impressive but its the base model :)

2.73 gearing? Bleh... You need to change that, for sure. I suggest 3.73s...

krenogin 10-05-2010 03:24 PM

Man, if you go 3.73 in that v6 you will slaughter alot of cars. However that will kill the lovely 31MPG.

I'd say that tall gearing allows that highway MPG.

why in the world would they put the 2.73's on a 2011 v6.....

they should know better, lol

Kyanbi 10-06-2010 06:55 AM

This thread makes me sad :/ lol.

I'm under the assumption that this is from a roll, not a dig, right?

Just wondering because my '01 is over a second faster N/A than the numbers you posted from your sixxer.

Nice kill never the less.

alright got new times last night at the same 1/8 track..

Added the magnaflow muffler delete system..
ran :
60' - 2.209
330 - 6.116
1/8th 9.239
@ -81.19 MPH

Decent gain to be had from just exhaust mod....

j_gutta870 10-30-2010 05:18 PM

Nice kill. Gears coming soon?

OmahaMustang 11-07-2010 10:05 PM

naw, gears will wait....kinda wanting to save my pennys for the up coming long tube headers, off road x-pipe and sct handheld tuner....then by next spring ....cai...then maybe gears..

Lazerred6 11-08-2010 07:53 AM

I just joined this forum today and was checking out the content and came across this thread.

The reason they put 2:73:1 gears in the differential has a lot to do with the gearing in the transmission for the 2011 Mustang. You need to be careful with you differential gear selection or your 1st gear will become pretty useless do to the much lower gearing in the 2011 transmissions.

3.31 would be perfect. still have decent fuel and get that extra bump up in gears
