Car won't start...

I have been away at school and came back to take the car out for a ride, and went to the store. It got to the store, but when I tried to start it again it wouldn't start. It had zero gas, so I pushed it to the station and filled it up. Thot that would do it but still, wouldn't start.

Problem is it cranks just fine and all accessories work so I know it's not electrical. Coil pack and wires are good, found that out the hard way when I tested a wire while turning it over. Turns over like a beast but that's all. I replaced the fuel filter and it ran for awhile, but when I took it around the block it died coming off a stop sign. I'm thinking the fuel pump pulled up some crap from the empty tank but I can't be sure. Any ideas or similar experiences out there?

sounds like the fuel pump picked up some debris.

Are those hard to replace yourself?

I know everyone complains as them being hard. You have to drop your tank.

Yeah.....and seeing as how I just filled it up before it decided not to start, it won't make things any easier. Seems like only a few things to remove to get to it tho, a few bolts, two retaining bands and fuel lines. I'm motivated to do it myself only because I obviously can't take it to get fixed without a tow, and I'm a poor college student who lives 20 miles from the nearest garage. Not a good situation...
