Pypes Exhaust

So I'm having issues finding my 2 1/2" offroad x pipe and someone that'll do the work from there on back..

I came accross a Pypes setup.. and was wondering if this thing bolts up as a dual exhaust and completely loses the Y pipe or whatever pipe you've got coming out the back and replaces it with an X..if so..I'll just weld that flange on the drivers side.. cut off the pipe right after the mufflers, and call it a day..

http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-...n-9604-v6.html

Thats the setup I was looking at.

08mustang_gt 06-18-2009 06:33 AM

To me it looks like it replaces the Y-pipe and everything. Bolts right up to the manifold.

That's ten times better than a y-pipe and then splitting it back apart again.

Its a straight bolt on full exhaust setup.

Any particular reason why you don't just have an exhaust shop do a "True dual" setup for you? Shouldn't be a problem for a halfway decent shop to cut the factory Y out after the Cats and make a decent cat back. That's what I had done with my old Sixxer and it was the best setup IMHO.

SnTBakosFinest 06-18-2009 04:34 PM

I don't have a Y anymore, I've got a custom H.

Living in california, being the smog nazis we are, exhaust shops cannot/willnot remove cats here.

And I'm needing a bigger/more free flowing exhaust now..

If I could find a 3" xpipe without cats that'd be ideal..

SnTBakosFinest 06-18-2009 04:35 PM

also how the hell is this in the lounge? mod please move to v6 section? lol

spike_africa 06-19-2009 06:18 AM

I have no idea why someone would move this to the lounge. And I don't see how you would need 3" exhaust with the power that car is gonna make.

You don't need 3" exhaust. Unless you'r getting ready to TT or something of that nature.

I'm recommending leaving the cats in, just have the mid pipe cut out and do true duals, no mid pipe. Being an even firing motor the sixxer tends to like no mid-pipe.

Talk to Tom Y (owner of supersix) about that one.

On alternate bank firing engines (v6) and X will give me better flow. I don't want something restrictive. I'm not running a TT or a procharger, I'm running a large shot of nitrous (for a little v6 mustang anyways) and I plan on upping that shot after some time, and a direct port.

If I didn't care about how restrictive the car was, I wouldn't have had port/polish work done, only reason why I don't swap my headers is due to the fact that unbolting those are a bitch, an exhaust isn't as bad, and the current set of headers actually hold up.

Lazerred6 06-19-2009 03:26 PM

Don't the headers end with a 2 1/2 inch pipe? seems like any resistance would come from there cause you can only pump the exhaust through the system as fast as you can get it through the headers

I may be totally wrong but it seems like going from 2 1/2 inch headers to a 3 inch pipe after that would only help a small amount

Think that may be an issue. Maybe I will go ahead and put the longtubes on as well, so there went the "being easy" for popping off the exhaust. Still need that X though.

Lazerred6 06-19-2009 03:50 PM

LT's FTW

SnTBakosFinest 06-19-2009 03:56 PM

Meh. Still doesn't give it that purdy sound of a mean v8.. but whatever..it can sound loud and semi ricey..as long as it hauls ass..

Lazerred6 06-19-2009 04:08 PM

6's sound like 6's and 8's sound like 8's.

but when your sixer walks a cobra no one is going to say shit about how your exhaust sounds

SnTBakosFinest 06-19-2009 06:43 PM

Yea..we'll see if I can walk a Cobra here pretty shortly.. I expect the car back in my possession here very VERY shortly, or I may have to reconsider a few things.

00silvergt 07-05-2009 03:23 PM

the pypes exhaust sounds great. i had it on a v6 mustang with hi flow cats. i cant wait to hear what it sounds in the mustang with the cobra swap

It'll walk a regualr Cobra, but I don't see it walking a Termi. Maybe, but I don't see it.

Nitrous is full power without a power band, but Termi's aren't an easy foe.

i think pypes sound good on my V6....

redlinestang01 09-10-2009 09:36 AM

I have this Pypes system on my v6. i also added some BBK short headers. sounds great for a V6! only thing i ran into was that its not as "direct fit" as most sites will say. i had to pay some extra at the shop due to some parts not fitting right, needing to be trimmed or bent more. other than that i love it.

^ Exactly - I helped a friend put a Pypes catback on his 6er and it was a PIA - big time, it didn't fit right it had to be cut and re-welded and bent into place because - it wasn't as direct fit to a crossover pipe as they said.

SnTBakosFinest - I imagine it will sound something like this but with out the hi-flows it would be just a bit louder;) - I don't think it will sound two bad.

Although I have to say I like this one much better:)

Rumblin_6 09-10-2009 02:48 PM

Congrats - Wait, the big question is what do you think and do you like it?

The mufflers aren't too bad, still think I'll be putting my magnaflows on.

I'll get a vid later of it at idle or something..

So much for being too D*** late:godamnit: I kind of figured that would happen. If I knew then - what I know now, I would have had Magnaflows put on it from the start. - Oh well, so much for listening to the diehard Flowmaster guys on another site:verypissed: As I mentioned before I have had Mags on every vehicle I have ever had - 2 GTs and a 98 Silverado (and couldn't have been happier with them).

That being said - IMO - they sound great on sixers also;).

Now swap out those Pypes for the Mags;)

SnTBakosFinest 09-10-2009 10:37 PM

Well, the pypes mufflers are still restrictive, the sound isn't the issue..flowing is..

The way the car is right now, it sounds extremely aggressive, you have to remember, its stroked and cammed, it doesn't carry a stock v6 sound anymore..

High RPMs its always going to sound raspy and shitty...or like a porsche.. thats no big deal though..

And, its just the mufflers, overall, the piping from pypes is very well put together, the installation isn't too terrible.. its all stainless and mandrel bent..fitment wasn't an issue, ect.
