odd sound

Yesterday i was on my way to work driving in a torrential downpour. I was going about 30mph, hit a large puddle and hydroplaned into the median. the front tires hit the median dead on. i pulled over to check for any damage, nothing, just a few minor scratches on the chin spoiler. However when i got back on the road i noticed an odd sound, as i accelerate it sounds like a damn lawn mower. like a tick tick tick kind of noise, maybe something got loose when i collided with the curb? any suggestions would help. It feels a bit sluggish too.

But nothing's rubbing the front tires? Sorry to hear about that scare man.

Inspect your rims and look for damage to the suspension? No idea, just a suggestion

Check under the car too, you may have picked up some trash or a limb or something.

nah the median was cement and it was clean of debris. the sound only happens when i accelerate around 2,500 rpm and up. it sounds like my car has 300,000 miles on it and it about to break down. kind of like its puttering or something making the car sound really weak. but the performance after driving it today seems the same, i can peel wheels in first and second gear still. anyone know what could make this sound? it seems like it comes from the right front side of the engine bay.

Check your seals around your exhaust manifold and headers. Sounds like a leak to me.

FlawlessEnvy 06-07-2009 05:14 PM

yeah that crossed my mind today, ill check it out and get back to you on that one.

Yeah sounds like an exhaust leak for sure. Would explain the ticking noise and can rob some power giving you the sluggish feel.

FlawlessEnvy 06-08-2009 08:42 AM

if thats the case how could i fix an exhaust leak?

knife13 06-08-2009 01:03 PM

it definately sounds like you put a leak in your exhaust. I would check the exhaust manifold flanges first, they are super weak to begin with. You can leak test your exhaust with soapy water. If you put a hole or crack in your exhaust the only fix for it would be to get it welded or weld it yourself.

not at leak, my dad used to build drag engines for dodge. i took the mustang to his house today for him to check it out, we checked all the seals and covered the tail pipe to see if we could hear where a leak would be coming from and we got nothing. im not sure where to go from here lol but the sound has been getting less and less noticeable.
