gt stock h pipe

what is involved in putting a stock gt h-pipe in place of the stock y-pipe on a 94-98 3.8l. my neighbor is selling her gt and she has offroad h-pipe on it. her stock is sitting in her garage. i am thinking about trying to get it from her. i have a mac dual cat back installed but i still have the y. is welding required or is it something i can do in my driveway?

It will not bolt up at all to your car. The mod motors are much wider then the 3.8 cars. If you got it you would have to have your flangs from your stock Y welded on, then have the H cut and narrowed (not to big a deal) and then have your catback cut and get rid of the Y in it and have that connected to the H-pipe. Overall you would still have a shit ton of not great flowing cats on the car.

that's what i figured. i thought it would be wider than necessary. that wouldn't be a big deal, i can have it cut and welded back while it is off, i would just need to get an exact measurement.

Well the other shitty part is that you would be putting small flangs on a much larger pipe which will not help flow at all. You might be better off getting the pipe and cutting the cats off and selling them for cash to help buy a bolt on H-pipe. Cats are worth a good bit of cash because of the metals inside of them.

well maybe it's too much trouble than it's worth. i don't think i'll get it dirt cheap so how much do you think the cats are worth?
