Ive been lookin around for rear end gears, 4.10 cause its an auto and 7.5 for v6. But FRPP doesnt make 7.5 4.10s!! WHY NOT?! Or i atleast cant find them on, AM, Stangmods, or DallasMustangs. What gives?

SnTBakosFinest 04-19-2009 04:09 PM

I think he was looking for Ford Racing brand gears...

Deathdiesel 04-19-2009 04:15 PM

Yea, i know about posi lock and all that, just wanna find FRPP specific gears :P

01FR500 04-19-2009 04:16 PM

Motive = FRPP gears

Deathdiesel 04-19-2009 04:17 PM

Are they the same, just different name? Or is it a diff manufacteur?

SnTBakosFinest 04-19-2009 04:21 PM

It's the same shit. Why are you concerned with the brand? Motive puts out a pretty solid gear.

Deathdiesel 04-19-2009 04:27 PM

Idk people always say to get FRPP and nothing else.

SnTBakosFinest 04-19-2009 04:29 PM

Motive is pretty much the same stuff. If it wasn't worth a damn, I wouldn't recommend it lol.

Deathdiesel 04-19-2009 04:34 PM

K cool.

NeedACobra 04-19-2009 05:09 PM

Im glad AM finally put an affordable posi on their site.
For a while they only had an 8.8 rear end posi that was like..$500.
Now they have one for the 7.5 and its only lke...250, I think.

A little 7.5 posi shouldn't be an arm and a leg regardless... if you got the power to break a 7.5 posi then you prolly got the cash to buy an 8.8

And I think the 8.8 posi that was 500 was a detroit tru trac..which..is a pretty badass posi lol..

NeedACobra 04-19-2009 05:19 PM

Cant remember the brand.
All I remember is saying "fuck that. Too much money."
And didnt wanna have to buy an 8.8 rear end either.
But Im starting my new job her in a couple days, and Im going to start saving for a posi and 4:10s. Should only need about 500 all together including the rebuild kit and the install.

Speaking of breaking the posi.......I heard from a local shop that a 7.5 Trac-lok will break if you burnout a lot and do hard starts and shifts, that old hard driving thing basically. Anybody want to share experience on the durability of a 7.5 Trac-lok/gears and shit?

spike_africa 05-15-2009 12:29 PM

Burnouts are not going to break a posi, they will wear the clutches, but so does just daily driving. If you make over 300rwho and have sticky tires then I would worry about the 7.5" breaking.

mustangV6_04 05-15-2009 12:38 PM

like dustin said unless your making power from a s/c or nitrous with some stickys you got no problem with the 7.5

Dan2001 05-15-2009 12:38 PM

Noted. Thanks for the info Spike

As long as you are talking about installing a full 8.8 rear end from a GT then yes its a straight swap from the 7.5 to the 8.8, however if you mean just the posi unit then no you can not do that. Because the 7.5 cases is smaller then the 8.8 rear end.

probiker427 05-18-2009 07:18 AM

where can i find a full 8.8 rear end?

probiker427 05-18-2009 07:27 AM

they have 8.8 cases on AM, so could i do that get the 8.8 posi with a case would that fit? or do i just need a whole new rear end with a 8.8?

PColav6 05-18-2009 07:58 AM

I believe the internals on the 7.5 and 8.8 are completely different, you will need an entire rear end. You can find them used on ebay, craigslist, etc.

NewMustangMan 05-18-2009 08:21 AM

V6mustangstuff.com sells 8.8 rearends with gears in it allready. Grant the one with 410s is kinda expensive but a 8.8 with 3.31 with only 20 miles on it is like 550. Check it out. under GT take off parts.

probiker427 05-18-2009 08:41 AM

i checked out that site but i have a 99, those rearends are for 05 and up..damn

SnTBakosFinest 05-18-2009 09:15 AM

I'd probably check out local junkyards, craigslist, ebay.. shipping on a rear end is an arm and a leg (i did that about a month ago)

And you can go with an old SN95 rear end, or a new edge rear, only issue with the sn95 is it is slightly shorter then a new edge..but will work just fine.

PCola is right, you can't just throw on a housing, you need an entire new rear end.

TBH though, if you aren't pushing over 250 RWHP you should be fine with a 7.5 most of the issues with breaking them are the posi's .. under 250 RWHP on drag radials isn't enough to hurt an axle (most of the time) and if you buy a good posi, it should hold up just fine.

SnTBakosFinest 05-18-2009 09:17 AM

Also, if you can get to Charolette, NC my port/polish guy is selling a built 7.5 for 325, pickup only.
