Headers
I was looking at the JBA shorty headers to put in my car was wondering if anyone has them and what people thought of them or if there are better ones.

If you are going to do headers do long tubes. The problem with LTs is that it will take out your Cats so if you have to get emissions you probably wont pass. I am going to get MAC LTs soon. If you Get LTs then you will also need a shorty H or X pipe to go with them or you can probably have a shop fabricate one for you.
MAC sells Ceramic coated LTs for your stang for like 350 and the shorty H for like 300 or something heres a link http://www.macperformance.com/store/...ategory_ID=943 Also since our headers already flow well geting Shorty replacement ones is not a good idea as it will not do to much. Dude i have the same exhaust as you right now! |
I would like to get LTs but I do need the car to pass emissions that's why I was looking at the shorty headers
|
not sure why you would have any problems with emissions with long tube headers. I put MAC long tube headers and a H pipe back in 2005 and I have never failed any emission check.
|
Well it just depends on the Emissions inspection If they look and you dont have cats you would fail. No Emissions out Here in Albuquerque but certain places are tougher on it that others
|
most places just put u on the rollers and won't look under the car. as long as no check engine light is popping up, i'm sure he'll pass emmissions. u just need to make sure you get the MIL eliminators.
|
If you have a Handheld Tuner would that also work to shut off the Check engine light? Just wondering if you would still need to Get MIL Eliminators if you have a tuner?

JBA shorties are extremely good quality, and stainless steel.
They also offer (if i remember right) a lifetime warranty on the headers. So, if you crack one (like I've done with two different sets of headers) then it will be replaced. Performance/sound wise, it'll do nothing though. But, our sixxers like to break headers..so it may be a good investment. |
Why do the headers break
|
Ford screwed something up? Not sure exactly.
|
Does the 4L have the same problem? I only know of the 3.8s that break the stock header welds.

As far as I know the 4l is pretty sound regarding the headers. I think the problems with the 4.0 is adding in forced induction on stock internals.
The pistons i think have around the same limits as the 3.8L 350rwhp or more depending on how good the tune is. and on the subject. go longtubes or just leave the stock exhaust manifolds. |
so thats why my car clicks when i first start it up! that noise is because of a crack in the manifold! and as it warms up it stops. i guess the heat expanding the metal together in the small crack... wow this explains alot..

I've had my catalytic converter crack, I've had my manifolds crack (both sides on the stock headers) I had another set crack as well. Which is why I would tell anyone to go with a STRONG aftermarket header, preferably JBA, and a fully welded exhaust. |
