v6 exhaust

Default v6 exhaust

im swapping out the stock exhaust on my v6 for true duals. im purchasing the pypes catted x-pipe and the magnaflow "magnapack" cat-back. i know i have to buy the pypes exhaust hanger kit to adapt for the v6 but i was wondering if all the necessary bolts, u-bolt clamps, ect. come with the kits or do i need to buy those also?

All will come with it. The bolts will be newer bolts along with the flanges you may need. I don't know if there is a flange on the headers to the x-pipe, but if there is it should come with. Post up some pics too

its an 03'. after the swap ill definately post sound clips.

future mods:
bbk 65mm throttle body
bbk shorty headers
17x9 black bullit wheel "front"
17x10.5 black deepdish bullit wheel "back"
rear LSD with 4.10 gears
sct eliminator 4-bank chip
upgraded brake kit

thats all so far...
maybe a custom turbo. who knows...

Default x-pipe or h-pipe?

i read somewhere that because the v6 engine is a single firing engine that an x-pipe isnt a good choice and that an h-pipe is better and provides a deeper tone and more torque in the bottom end. if so... where can i find an h-pipe for a 03' v6 thats bolts on in stock position?

Default x or h-pipe?

most if not all h-pipes require cutting or welding of some kind and i dont have the tools. so if i were to install an x-pipe would it hurt my car any? other than sound what is the difference?

Neither would hurt your car. And if you buy a good one, it shouldn't require any welding. X-pipes just have a raspy muscle tone compared to the mellow tones of h-pipes.

It is even firing so an X-pipe is kind of retarded on the v6. Here is a bolt on H-pipe, with this you just bolt on a GT catback and your done.

get LT Headers

or instead of the H or X pipe you could go with straight

thanks for all the info and for the link to the h-pipe but i need a catted h-pipe unless there is a way around inspection that i dont know about.

could i switch to longtube headers and get a shorty catted h-pipe if so could someone explain the process? would there be any fitting requirements for a v6 or any other info i need to know? it would be greatly appreciated.

if you are going to change headers, then yes, get long tubes. the stock shortie headers are not very restrictive at all. there will be no fitment requiermets so long as you buy v6 long tube headers for your car. however you need to buy a mid-pipe specifically for the longtubes.

as far installation, get it done somewhere. the best way to install longtube is by dropping the k-member, and i dont think thats within your mechanical aptitude.

i just got my exhaust done about 3 hours ago... flowmaster 40s, true dual, no crossover, catted, and i absolutely love the sound!!

good choice there "no crossover" but i think instead of the flows you should of gotten Thrush Mufflers. They sound identicle to the flows but are only 30 bucks each

im not sure if i want an h-pipe or not. im not trying to pretend my v6 is a gt. it never will be unless i do an engine swap. i like the look of the dual exhaust but i dont want one just for show either. i want an exhaust that will best show off the "v6" not try to compete with a gt. if i were to get new shorty headers any suggestions?

this will not be a race car just one to have fun in. i have a 73 chevy laguna to race. 454 chevy engine, gutted, and so on... 1/4 mile in 10.5 sec. its a blast!!! granpa built it so not much more i can tell you.

Yeah I'm looking at an h-pipe as well for my car, I got a friend who works at a muffler shop who tells me he can port my exhaust out the sides for around 300ish, not sure if he was factoring in the mufflers and such as well, but if I did that I'd have to change my rear bumper or find some way to cover up the hole from the previous exhaust.

Don't have a muffler shop route you side exhaust. For once you'd have hell of problems with clearance unless he ran it into you side skirts, and number two if done wrong it looks super ******* stupid.....

Just a fair warning...

the stock shorties are not restrictive at all!!! do not waste your money on aftermarket ones.

as far as exhaust goes, get the pypes dual h-pipe adaptor, and then any cat back u want. the car will sound like a V8... until the GT's roll by. lol.

thus far i have learned that because the v6 is an even firing engine it doesnt matter whether i put on a x or an h-pipe because blending doesnt really do anything for the car. after that its just a sound preference. its not gonna sound like a gt and i dont want it to. i dont want people saying theres another poser. its a v6 but if im doing dual exhaust im doing it right not gonna just get something for a y-pipe.
