Ball joints goin out..

So after witnessing what happens when a ball joint finally goes to shit, and then spending about 250 dollars to have it fixed, my drivers side ball joint is starting to go out. : D Its making that god awful embarassing grinding noise, and I want it fixed asafp.
Anyways, I was just wondering what all I would have to do to fix this shit myself, could I possibly do this myself in my driveway? Cause I dont wanna spend another 250 on anything right now seeing as how Im trying to save up for a posi and some gears.

What I gotta do?!

You just need basic tools and a ball joint puller. Its pretty easy to do. Buy a Haynes manual, its in there.

I take it that a ball joint separator would be the same thing?
And how the fuck do ya use it?

I may be better off taking it to a shop?

if you have any basic mechanic skills and some common sence you'll be able to do it yourself just buy a haynes

Nah, at least look at a Haynes manual and check out the pictures. Thatll give you a good idea of whats involved.

well, Ive got pretty decent amount of common sense, and usually I figure out how to fix shit by taking it apart, plus, Ive seen what happens when one breaks, haha. But yeah, I guess Ill look for that manual and go from there.

I have a haynes book for every car I've ever owned(except for my mustang, I still need to get one). They come in handy. Just go to autozone and pick one up for future projects as well. You shouldn't have a problem as long as u have the right ball joint tool. If u don't rent one from autozone it won't cost u anything but the deposit which u get back when u return the tool.

I did this just the other week when I installed my Steeda X2 balljoints. I removed the A-arms and took them to a local shop to have the ball joints pressed out and have the new oned pressed in. $50 for that. And then take the A-arms home and reassemble. You could press them out yourself but I didn't want to screw it up.

have them pressed out and in for you... 50 bones at your local shop is a small price to pay to have someone else pay for the replacement parts when they fuk it up.

hm. yeah, 50 bucks does sound very reasonable.
Now how the hell do you take out the A-arm?
Anyone got a good site I could look at? Id google some info myself, but I smell like shit and bbq from work, so Im hittin the shower.
