Oh, when you gut the mass air you take the s***** filter screen. I had people say that it screws things up but I have not had a problem and have done this on every vehicle I have ever had. I had a guy one time say that it screws up the internal metering and does equate the air out equally which cause both a rich and a lean out condition depending on rpm and such. So I called C&L, SCT and both guys said that the screens only purpose is to filter out potential harmful deposits that get past the stock intake and filter system and that the other guy is full of crap. If you have a decent filter it doesn't matter.
It will actually help the idle - to take the screen out. The only thing that they did say was to make 100% sure that you get the inlet temp senor and the mass air positioned right. See attachement pic below.The inlet temp senor should be be positioned where when you hold the tube up you can see through the horseshoe part (I circled it in Red). As for the Mass air the electrical connection should be dead center on the top (Looking Down). i didnt have one of those temperature sensors at all in mine...i just plugged up the whole in the tube. i looked around in the engine bay for like 10 minutes and the only thing i had was the maf sensor. is there some type of difference between year models? |
Yeah, depending on the year there was small differences such as in the type of senor.
Don't quote me on this because it has been awhile and I don't remember. (I am going to look it up myself just out of curiousity). But I know that the 96-04 cars had them. Edit: I just looked I knew that the 96-04 cars have the same senor, the 94-95 cars have a different senor. You should have one on your car. There should be a pigtail (a small harness with a connector) that plugs into a sensor. Are you sure you don't have one? You should have a connection to the mass air and then there should be a second that goes into a sensor that should be connected into the manifold about 4-5" approx. from the throttle body. 99+ cars do not have a separate intake air temp sensor. This is because its built into the maf as one unit.

Score one for Dustin. I just went out and looked at my car and it doesn't have one either. Like I said I did not do the install. The last mustang I worked on had one so I assumed wrong in thinking that mine had it too.
Dustin are you sure about the 99 + cars in the video I posted above of the guy installing the AM intake he is re-attaching one and there is a pic on a parts website I was just looking at (don't know what the year is exactly other than it is a 99+ and it too has one. I am just curious as can be now myself because why did Ford change that. |
He's right, it's built in. I had to plug up a hole in my intake because I don't have one. I think he 01's have it, but none others do. It's only one year that have a separate one

well 4.6 cars its 99+ I guess in the 3.8 its 01+.
