Cobra R Exhaust

Well, I need to start routing my money to other things besides the car, but before I do I'm gonna throw on an exhaust upgrade. Right now I'm running 2 1/2 true duals to glasspacks turned down behind the bumper, but recently my headers started leaking. My dad doesn't like the flowmasters on his cobra so he's taking them off and i'm gonna slap them on. I'm also gonna get Mac longtubes since I have to replace the headers.

I want to know how hard it is to run the exhaust in front of the rear wheels. With Jack Roush and SVT both having an exhaust system like that, I'm not gonna let a shop give me that "it''s illegal" bullshit. Do I have do get any special extras, or is it a straightforward, run the pipe out the side mod?

a friend of mine had a shop put side exit on his car but it's a 2 seater so I think if there is a rule his car is an exception

Hmm, but no one really gets tickets for that do they?

Wombozi17 10-30-2008 11:37 AM

i have side pipes... i dont think there are any regulations saying its illegal.

Lazerred6 10-30-2008 11:38 AM

If so I've never heard of it happening I would guess if it's a law no one knows about it

alright cool. also, are they a lot louder in the car since they're right by the door?

Dont waste your money of the Cobra exhaust. Buy some Spintech s333 (or something like that) from stage3 performance. Best side exhaust muffler for v6 and v8 cars and VERY cheap for that matter

Depends on the mood of the cop. I've only ever seen one mustang owner get pulled over for it, but if it looks OEM you won't be bothered, I'm sure. Technically the exhaust is supposed to exit behind the rear seats, but like I said...if it looks OEM, you won't have to worry about it.

i say just do turndowns... that is what i am gonna eventually do with my 1 chambers. fuck California i wanna get long tubes too and an off road x pipe lol damn emission regulations

I think what I'll do is get a shop to bend the pipe for me and I'll just put double-barrel tips on each exit pointing back like the r. try to make it look as oem as possible. I've already got turn downs and I want a change

Steeda21 11-03-2008 09:21 PM

since you have turndowns wouldnt it contradict what you were saying about the side exhaust being illegal because it didnt exit out the back? lol i just caught that unless i missed something

Mr. Zip 11-03-2008 09:24 PM

ohh no. sorry. i have turn downs right before the rear bumber. now i'm up with ya
