Tuner and Octane Question
I have the SCT XCAL2 Tuner from Justin@VMP. I didn't notice a big difference when I added the 87 octane performance tune. Would switching to the 91 octane tune be worth the extra money? Can our v6's handle 91 octane? Thanks.

do you have an auto or manual? the biggest difference from the tunes is the improved shift points and stiffer shifting on an auto. The best performance differences are done with highest octane 93 or whatever premium is by you. The increases are only about 6 maybe 7hp. Yeah you can use whatever fuel you want as long as its tuned for it

I have a manual and basically bought the tuner to adjust for the gears. Hey Dave off topic but do you have clear fog lights with smoked headlights?
|
yeah I've got clear fogs but the headlights came smoked stock there not the clear corner aftermarket ones
|
Okay. Because I was thinking about putting clear fog lights on, but I wasn't sure if they would look good with my stock headlights. But yours looks pretty good with the smoked ones.

ur car will gain with a 91 tune, and a 97 tune too, and yes the engine will handle the octane without a problem. however i'd stick with the 87 tune with the mods you have now. when you move up to modifying your engine with more then just bolt ons, then i'd switch to 97.

switch to a 91oct or 93oct which ever you have in your area.
The way you gain power from these tuners is to up timing which you can only do by upping the oct. this is the main sorce of gains anyway. |
ya i really didnt fell anything when i got the tuner but damn, if i move the shift press to 25% it freakin fells like a standard, lol
|
ya a tuner on a Manuel car isnt gonna show u that much of a difference
thats y im holding off untill i put all my bolt-on's on my car |
