Default Is this bad or a good thing?

Ok as sum of yall dont know the this past friday which was October 10, 2008. My stang started to have some knocking or clicking noise coming from the engine. I took it to a mustang shop this past sunday which was October 12, 2008. They told my that the knocking sound is problem the bearings going out, "I was like umm ok". Then i ask them how long can i drive it like this, the said "well at least 2 or 3 months or your engine could easly lock up on you in 2 or 3 days". I was like WTF, damn.... So as Monday comes car is still running . But then as tuesday comes, while i was going to go on lunch i started my car and let it idle for awhile and then all of a sudden my car shuts off . I try to start it but it wont crank at all, ummm maybe it already locked up on me ...................Ok this can continue forever so im cutting it short. Im buying a Engine Rebuild Kit and boring my stang out to 4.0 so is this a good thing or bad thing. And will i feel any difference in boring out my engine? PLZ let me know if I am

thanx

oh and she will be up and running at the end of October or the beginning of November

rebuilt kit and boring it out to 4.0

4.2 is gonna be next on the list once these internals go bad, in which its gonna be awhile

well cuz im on a tight budget right now, and 1500.00 is the limit, and the forged internals are like 1300.00 and 610 for the labor, so thats like 400 over my budget

I would imagine you will feel a big difference once its bored out. I havn't ridden or driven a car that is bored out but my dad has a boat and he bored his 350 out(not sure how much) but i noticed a big difference in that, and im sure you will even feel it more in a car.

Not much at all if you keep the compression stock and use stock H/C/I. If i was you I would get a used 3.8 split port motor from a 99-04 mustang and swap that in. You will get more power, and it will be cheaper then rebuilding your motor you already have. Just add boost later on in the form of a super charger like an ATI procharger or a turbo or nitrous kit and have a fast v6.

You can do the whole split port swap for as little as $500 if you get a good deal on the motor and do the swap yourself. The swap isn't super hard to do.

at this point, i would buy a different 3.8L engine, have it bored out and stroked to 4.2L and thats it. why in the hell would you bore out the same engine twice?? seriously, you'd be paying for the same work twice!!!!!!!

why would you want to keep an engine that failed on you?? why don't you get a 99-04 V6 engine, and have it worked on over time?? why would you throw away money twice???

you are making all the wrong moves......

well cause right now its my daliy driver and we put more than 1000 miles in one month, id say about 1500 miles in a month or even more, so this is my reason for not getting any other kind of motor, until we get our second car im staying with this motor

What your not realizing is if your engine locked up you most likely have internal damage already. Heavily scored crank bearing surfaces would be my geuss. Your scored cylinder walls. Why wouldnt you want to put a split port in it? Its just a newer version of what you have. I would bet you end up with more power and better mileage with a split port swap.

and just to also let yall know that i wasnt driving it whenever it locked up on me, i was just at my working, i turned on the car, it was idling for a little and then it turned off so i dont think i that much damage in my internals but if i were driving it then ya my internals would of been toast for sure

man... there is probably damage from when you were driving it. and if you put 1000 miles a month, all the more reason to get a new block. you can't upgrade a damaged 3.8 into a good 4.2. it doesn't make sense.

i say you get your second car now and save for the new engine.

well it lasted only 4 days until it locked up but the mechanics ("Iron Horse Motorsports") are tearing it apart 2day and he will let me know wat is damage by this weekend and he told me if i dont hear from him over the weekend to just give him a call tuesday. Also he said i could be stoping by and check how's it going. And i might stop by 2day to see wats up

I really do not understand why you would not want to swap in a split port 3.8 that has more power then your stock motor had and will cost you a lot less money then building a new motor. But, hey its your money do what you want.

lol, You make no sense dude.. If you ever want to make any power out of that thing you're probably going to end up going split port. Why not just get a 3.9 out of a wrecked sixxer, god know that there are plenty of them. You could have that engine freshened and dropped in for the same price as "rebuilding" the old crappy 3.8, but you'd end up with a faster, more reliable car..

i dont want a split port, i want to stay with the single port, also i will be buying another engine and building that one up and once this one goes out it have that other engine with forged pistons and all

its like telling me to buy a v8 but i wont. so single port is out of the pic. cuz then i would need to get a different throttle body and wat not..

your right... its definetly making more sense now. you WANT an engine with more restrictive intakes that rob you of horsepower...

i just want to stick with the same parts that came with my stang. Ya i would mind getting brand new intake manifold p/p but the same ones as i have right now.

like i just want to stick with the 94-98 stangs only

I'm sorry but that's ******* retarded. You want to keep it 94-98 style like that matters at all? Come on were trying to help you realize that you can get a newer motor with low miles swap it in and make more power still be a 3.8 and it will not break the bank for you. It makes perfect sense to everyone but you for some reason.

Maybe he wants to keep that car numbers matching. We all know how much SN95 V6's are worth. Gotta keep it cherry for Barret Jackson.
