Question with a trade offer

Hi guys,

A guy wants to trade a 67 Charger with 76k origional miles (383 big block 727 trans 8 3/4 rear), for my 05 mustang V6, 52k miles. What do you guys think?

def a sweet ride... assuming car has matching #'s and all documentation and u can afford another daily driver... ide go yes if money or time wasnt a problem.

JackThe Ripper 09-30-2008 08:52 PM

old cars are lousy for daily drivers.

personally i think that charger is uglier than shit, something my grandfather would drive to church and back.

lol..

i bet it sounds pretty nasty though, and yer V6 is probably quicker unless they did something to beef up that engine, that charger probably weighs a good 600-700lbs more than yer stang.

If yer not mechanical try to find somone who is to go through it in and out. if it is all numbers matching then it should probably be worth more to a collector than an 05 V6 with 50k miles.

Acttacus 09-30-2008 09:45 PM

Thanks guys, the guy said that its got lots of new parts and "matching #s", and the car is worth $23k, with new vinyl top, seats, oil pump, gas tank & shocks.

I'm not sure, I mean I got a 150cc scooter for going to work nd back (Only live 1 mile from work), so I only need a car for weekend cruise and stuff. Do you guys think its worth trading the Mustang in for? If you guys think it's worth it I'll probably get in contact with him and get the car to a dodge mechanics to do a run down on't.

Cheers guys for the help, appreciated!

IMO the Charger didn't look good until 1971. Sounds like a good deal, but Jacks right. It's ugly and probably a lousy DD. I say no deal. But that's just me.

Acttacus 09-30-2008 10:39 PM

KK thanks, I'm more leaning towards a 00~04 Mustang GT too, Gosh I wish I had visited this forum a little earlier, would have definitely gone with a GT with the $13k I put into the V6. Ohwell, still a nice car, but would have loved the extra ponies.

King 09-30-2008 11:25 PM

Well you could keep the sixer and make it a "sleeper". You can still achieve a good amount of ponies with a v6, you just have to have the patience, will and little bit of money. The only thing I don't like about having a Mach opposed to my old sixer is that there is a level of expectation on the streets. In a sixer, people point and laugh (in this town anyway), and if you've got a GT/Mach/Termi (just a general v8) the level of expectation is out of this world. I pulled up to a light once, and a supercharge Vette wanted to race me. Call me crazy, but I don't think my car could keep up with a stock vette. That never would've happened in my sixer.

Acttacus 10-01-2008 12:00 AM

I suppose, but it's just annoying to learn now that with the money I will be putting into the sixer to make it decent ($13k car + ~$4k power adder), I could get a very decent V8 for the same money. Though the sixer will probably have a prettier engine bay and sounds better with the whine, but $17k probably equals an older 01~03 GT + supercharger. that's ~100hp more than the supercharged 05 sixer:xself:

I say do it!

That car is only going to go up in value while yours will drop fast.

r3dn3ck 10-02-2008 08:48 AM

ditto that lance.

Acttacus 10-02-2008 10:16 AM

Thanks guys. I got in touch with him today, and got some more info on it. Seems all legit, so I might go and meet him over the weekend. Always wanted a V8, even if it is slower than the mustang, it should still make a more fun weekend cruiser.

Here are a couple more pics, having little experience with older cars, what do you guys think of the condition of the engine base on the picture? acceptable? It's going to be my only car other than the scooter, so I don't really want to have to spend too much time working on it.

Cheers Guys, thanks for helping.

if you're aware of the increased need for repairs on older cars and you've poked around for rust spots in all the water trapping regions.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. That charger will be an investment. It's only going to gain value if you keep it nice and maybe even refurb the worn areas with original parts. The stang is new and a v6 so it's basically already worthless.

BTW.. that's a sexy car. Don't let anyone tell you different.

r3dn3ck 10-02-2008 10:33 AM

BTW... didn't that model run at Talladega with the the Torino's

Stephen4036 10-02-2008 11:15 AM

if the rust situation is good. DO IT!

Acttacus 10-02-2008 11:35 AM

I was told that there are a little surface rust under door but no rot. No rusts on floor pans, trunk or any of the normal body areas. Note the car was repainted a year ago though. But the thing that attracts me is the all #s matching, with 76.5 original miles.

But the car has no AC nor heater. And it gets a little cold down here in the winters.

Its a 6 hour drive between me and him, and we'll probably meet halfway sometime in the near future. Hopefully everything will work out o right.

There are many pluses and minuses to older cars. One plus is if there is a problem, you don't need a computer to find out what it is, or to have it fixed. Usually, fixing a problem on an older car just takes a light and a wrench.

Something doesn't add up with it. Why would he want to trade you if it is a valuable car? Even if all of the numbers match, he could get well over the $13k you paid for your sixer, so why would he want a straight trade? Something screams scam. I really think that if you go through with this, you'll be getting the short end of the stick.

Stephen4036 10-02-2008 12:29 PM

that car isnt worth 13k over his mustang..... your v6 is worth what 10-13 now? so that charger isnt worth 25k at all.. one it wasnt dodges best charger year... two it wasnt the big hemi... three it isnt in restored condition.

Good point. The guy said that he has recently lost a job, and thus his work vehicle, so he needs something newer as a DD.

I don't know, like I don't mind the older car's look, and can probably live with not having AC/heater, but if its going to require constant work/repair than I'll probably pass on it. All I really want is a nice V8 with good grunt that doesn't look half bad.

Help me out guys, I bought the mustang only 2 months ago, its nice, but I'm not feeling the magic with it. Need a V8, period.

Should I go for it? or should I go back to craigslist and wait some more?

wait!!!

Thanks, I'm hitting myself for dropping $13k only two months ago on a V6, after seeing so many people here selling their V8 for same or less.:chairshot:

Acttacus 10-02-2008 09:48 PM

Haha, was bored, so I photoshopped the sale's sign on the second to last photo, the really small/vague backwards sign, and this is what I got:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...chopped_V1.jpg

Can anyone tell me, is it just me? or does it read "800 obo" at the bottom?

Also, can anyone guess what the rest reads?

Haha this is fun!:smokin:

Haha, good thing I declined his offer then.

Thanks guys for all the help, think I really need to do more homework next time, before doing stuff like this.

Cheers!
