4.2L Question

so I'm looking into the 4.2s and I see the ford freestar 4.2 is the same essex v6 anyone know how much variation there is between it and the one in the f150 cause you can get the freestar motor for less with less miles on it often.

I really need to know on this because I found a freestar motor with 42k on it for $450 and it's close enough that I can pick it up myself so $450 plus 50 mile there and 50 back of gas for the truck.

Well a f-150 is perty much the only thing you can get a 4.2 out of the only other thing that had it availible is the econoline. (The new freestar has a 4.2 liter option but you can't interchange transverse motors and strate motors atleast that is what I've heard) To put it in your auto mustang all you probobly need is the flex plate if even that because they should be the same diamiter torqe converter mounting is the only thing you should have to worry about but you would know rite away as for sensors there really I don't think there is any shure fire way of telling it should be all pretty much the same and you shouldn't have to tune the PCM to make it run from what I have read on the site the only big problem you can run in to is my big problem because I am planing the same thing, mine is a 95 so no split port so I'm going to have to use my old heads and manifold, and I don't know off had if yours has split port or not.

only thing i could find on it so far.

If it is and Essex engine then the only difference should be the stoke I beleive, such as in the F-150 motors. What year Freestar is it? I've heard of the Windstar, I guess Freestar is the succesor?

Its a FWD setup motor and more then likley it will not have the correct bolt holes for RWD motor mounts.

what year F150 do you need to do this to a 2002 mustang?
