Belt

This may sound like a stupid q's but my belt squeks and I was just wondering how I could get it to stop?

Number of things could be wring besides the belt, could be a idler pulley or tensioner. If it is the belt they sell whats called "belt dressing" and this would make it stop. You just take the can and spray belt while the car is running and it covers it in a light mist of sticky fluid. Another way is to take a crayon or candle (crayon works best) and run it on the belt while the car is running this covers it with a think coat of the wax and makes it not squeal. I would start with that and see if it fixes your problem as its super cheap to do either way.

Ok thanks, cuz its really annoying lol.

Watch your fingers while doing that, hard to power shift when your missing a few digets. I've used them in the past, them seem to be just a temp. fix.

When i do the crayon trick, i use pliers to hold it on the belt not my hands.

blk00stang 04-06-2008 08:15 AM

yeah I used the crayon, it seems to work it hasn't squeked yet but it didn't squek every time any ways

can also be a sign of wear on the idler pulley bearings.

can anyone here tell me how to check my transmission fluid? i just got the car a couple weeks ago and i cant find it haha. its a stick by the way, and my first stick shift...

Most manual cars you have a fill plug on the side of the trans, you fill it until it start to dribble out. Not sure on your specific trans, but this is a general rule. So if you unplug yours & it starts to drip out, you should be good.

Not like Auto trans that usually have a dipstick located back by the firewall, those you check with the ungine running & the temps at operating range.

ok cool. i wanted to check it because i have a winding noise that has got louder. i thought it was power steering but thats all full. do you think it could be transmission fluid? it does it when i rev the engine or when im driving and changing gears. and it almost sounds like its coming from somewhere around my alternator or my belts but i really dont know...

Crimsonred02 04-06-2008 10:44 AM

How to check your transmission fluid? There is a dipstick just like for your oil.

danlon3.8 04-06-2008 10:58 AM

yea but mine is a stick shift so i dont have a dip stick haha this is my first manual trans. car. i wanted to check it cuz i have a weird winding sound i wrote about it more in detail on the message above yours
