GT hood and side scoops?

im might be buying a set of GT side scoops and the hood scoop to go with it but i could use a few tips on how to install them on my V6 stang. is there some certain way that i need to take my stock side scoops off?

Wombozi17 04-01-2008 05:26 PM

the side scoops will pop right out with a little bit of force. They are held in by plastic tabs.

zigzagg321 04-01-2008 05:29 PM

haha, I dont know why you want to put fake scoops on your car, when it never had them to begin with. fake scoops are bad..mmmmkay.

but if ya gotta do it, the side scoops pull off, its hard sometimes, you might need a PLASTIC pry tool to pry them enough to grab 'em with your hands and pull them the rest of the way off. Get all new clips for both sides so you dont have to worry about not breaking them when you yank the sidescoops off.

to put a GT hood scoop on your car the factory way, you are gonna have to drill holes in your hood. get a factory scoop with all the correct hardware. the factory part will fit the best and the hole drilling patterns are common. probably come with the scoop perhaps.

I say leave it alone, fake scoops are lame. but some ppl like 'em. and they think scoopless is lame. do what you think will look good, but for the love of FSM, do not put GT emblems on it. that is RICER as fizzuk.

Dave04Mustang 04-01-2008 05:43 PM

correct me if I'm wrong but a side scoop is a side scoop. I know the bullitt side scoop is different but when I've looked at a GT and a V6 I notice nothing different (that is if were talking new edge). At least a hood scoop you notice but putting a gt side scoop (if theres even a diff) seems like a waste

wow, you haven't really looked at them both have you? lets take your car for example... you have a side scoop, that is a scoop(fake)...it has a grille in it...well a fake grill. But it's a "scoop."

The Bullitt side "scoops" arent actually scoops. They are basically scoop delete panels. so I guess really they are called Bullitt side panels? I dunno, but they arent scoops.

danlon3.8 04-01-2008 06:38 PM

yea im not looking to put the gt emblems on it haha i just want the nice look. i have a friend that has a gt and the side scoops on his actually look like they might stick out a lil further but idk. and when you said that the hood scoop needs to be drilled into the hood, would i put that right over the little stock scoop? cuz that is apart of the hood right?

I'm confused . I know my scoop is fake and I know a bullitt scoop is just removed, that wasn't my point. A GT has a fake scoop also so my statement was whats the point of replacing a V6 scoop with a GT scoop there both basically the same UNLIKE the bullitt where theres actually a difference. In no way was I saying my scoop is the same as a bullit scoop (side panel) haha

gotcha. I was hoping you knew that!! lol.

I think the v6 hood's "scoop" isnt really a scoop. Its a fake vent...still fake, but better than a fake scoop IMO.

danlon3.8 04-01-2008 07:07 PM

yea lol so hold on. the side scoops on the gt are fake too? are they just for looks or does it actually serve a purpose like the hood scoop?

they are fake. no air flows through them at all. they are there for looks, and IMO they dont look very good. I'd rather have v6 scoops over GT scoops. heck a v6 sidescoop is the same one as the 99 Cobras had.

Hood scoop serves no purpose either. The ONLY 99-4 mustang with a functional hood scoop is the Mach-1.

Hey zig, chin spoilers are only 80$ this month.

thanks man i was actually about to buy one but for full price:D

crzypny232 04-02-2008 01:46 PM

none of these "scoops" or anything else do anything for the car except enhance the looks of the car. The If you want performance, buy the shaker system from AM for $700. Other than that, there is no need for GT scoops or anything else. Hell, why dont you just forget the scoops and buy a Stalker Kit with a Cobra hood:cool:

you do realize the Gt ones jet out, where the v6 ones go in.

also I know the 94's had them, not sure on the 95's but there scoops were actually "functional" they let air pass through and go into the wheel wells/motor.

lol at pcola trying to spread the mach 1 chin spoiler

JackThe Ripper 04-02-2008 06:00 PM

Dude, if you want to put on a hoodscoop and sidescoops go for it, dont let these guys bust ya down on it.

yes, they are not functional, and no, you do not want to attempt to make them functional either.

For the price of the hood scoops and sidescoops and to get them painted, you could probably find youself a nice cobra hood or something.

personally, i dont like the way the mustang V6 hoods look. i think they look much much beetter even with a fake hoodscoop, it just looks more burly, i think for dropped the ball on the hoods.

look around you might find a good deal on a Cobra R hood, or a 2 inch cowl hood which look damn good.

I certainly wouldnt take a fake scoop OFF of a GT because i wouldnt want a my GT looking like a V6, like Ziggs car. He knows i think it looks boring, but he aint out to impress anyone so what i think doesent really matter.

But i certainly wouldnt put a fake scoop on the v6 hood. I think you would be better off buying a different hood.

And yah, the mach 1 shakers ARE badass and they CAN be done.

Here is the install I did on mine.

+1.....

well. technically you dont have a hood scoop, you have ventilation...

and i guess i dont have a scoop either, i have a hole in my hood that some sick shit sticks out of.

Must See 04-02-2008 06:13 PM

I wish ford wouldnt be so cheap and actually make the vents functional or atleast lose em. Im not going to lie they do look better with a hood scoop or atleast i think so. Im pretty sure all you have to do to put the hood scoop on is just get some tape and tape it down.

+1, the only thing preventing me from considering those rice is they came from the factory that way, and they actually look pretty good.

god forbit they cough up a little extra and make it a stock functional ram air hood....

damn that is pretty sweet. yea i thought about installing a shaker on mine but i cant find that specific hood that fits the shaker, but then on top of that i really dont have much experience under the hood. :(

Do you use a dremel to make modifications to stock bumpers? i only ask because when i get my dual exhaust put on i dont want to buy a gt bumper and paint it and install it. id rather just cut two half circles and lift the tips into the stock bumper. This can be done with a dremel?

It can be done yeah, but itll look like shit most likly. Ive seen it done and it was all choopy and just looks tacky. You dont really need the cut outs anyways. The tips can sit right under the stock bumper. Unless you absolutly need the cutouts. Most 6'ers get the gt bumper if their stock is damaged or a gt wants to trade them.

FlawlessEnvy 04-10-2008 11:10 AM

yeah ill prob just drop the exhaust below the bumper. dude i love the tires on the rear wheels. looks tight man. is 275/40 close to the width on those 315/35?

SeanStang 04-10-2008 11:37 AM

315's are about 2 inches wider than the 275's.
