swapping engines

I have a 2001 mustang and have recently blown my engine. Does anyone know if i can swap out my 3.8v6 for a engine from a 2006-2007 F-150 4.5v8 and if its possible what i will have to swap out beside engine and tranny?

aahhh dont see a lot of v6 to v8 conversions on the 96-04 mustangs, it is just so much work and so many expences that in the end it is almost cheaper to sell the 6er and get a gt.

and if i remember correctly, the f150 4.6l from 06 and 07 are 3valve engine as well.

pretty much everything has to be swapped out, and it is a ton of work.

You could throw a 4.2L v6 in there.

...if you're willing to spend that sort of money..invest in a new stang bro..

Not only will you have to go with all the stuff to mount the engine and the engine itself..

But the tranny as well...

Alot of work goes into it..

new trans, rear end, fuel system, motor, k-member, exhaust, wiring harness, ecu, dash cluster and a grip of little odds and ends. It really is a fairly significant swap to go from v6 to v8. The problem is the v6 is almost totally a different car. The only thing that's common is the shell, brakes and gas tank.

My advice would be to find a used v6 engine in decent shape fix the car, sell it buy a GT and be done or... buy the used v6 engine, take it and have it built forged and bored/stroked by an outfit like super-six motorsports (v6 guys... help me out here), add an inexpensive centrifugal blower or a couple stages of nitrous and an 8.8" rear end and call it a day.

yep exactly. Find a used 3.8 they go for anywhere from $400-800 and usually $1200-1500 if you find one with a 5spd. Tear it apart, build it(cams, heads, upper/lower intake manifolds), stroke/bore to 4.2L(crank, pistons and those odds and ends). It will be a heck of a lot stronger then pick a power adder of your choice and bam you are at 320-340rwhp depending on boost, and motor part choices. It will be one heck of a V6, and will easily run with the V8 stangs, to an extent.

4.6 is still a V8 and will require alot of parts, and time in order to get it to work. read post 6 by r3dn3ck

wow talk about someone who doesn't apparently know how to read nor do they want to be well thought of here and receive lots of advice. People here will not respond well to someone with 3 posts already bitching, just cool your jets, read the responses you have been given and if something was not answered fully then address that point and ask for more information, it is real simple and you will get much better and more indepth responses when you dont' ask such general questions such as "what does it take to swap a V8 into a V6" that we could spend pages telling you about. We answered your question, it is possible, lots of parts and odds and ends are required as r3dn3ck briefly outlined. We suggested alternatives to a V8 swap and all you came back with, was a smirk remark.

oh and if you are truly serious about this V8 swap and opposed to alternatives, here is a 4.6L V8 with a 5spd for sale. $1900 http://classifieds.stangnet.com/show...ct=50237&cat=2

i dont understand why the hostility......dont tell me ur one of thoes ricerstangs who just want more more more and end up blowin ur engine cuz u think ur faster then the 350z cuz ur a mustang......get some work done to ur six. potentially its a more durable engine then the v8. now dont get me wrong the v8 is stronger but i know you ricers, " yea bro i cranked my engine up to 21 psi dood"....6 banger...maybe, v8 would take a lot of reconstruction to do that.

stick with ur six, stop tryin to prove u think ur smarter then most of the people on this board. and when u can beat a camero or somethin decent with ur six and not blow the engine, then you can worry about a v8.......

so now now, have a nice day to you too

i dont need people tellin me i need to just use the money i have and buy a gt they dont know my siuation. granted some people have given good help. but it is just unnessicary for the people who dont have any real advice to say anything at all!! and howcome someone hasnt come around and said that there isnt a 4.5 because in reality its a 5.4 my buddy was dislexic that day!!!

r3dn3ck 03-05-2008 08:34 AM

now you're back in my shoe box.

swapping a 5.4 is exactly as hard as doing a 4.6L v8 swap.

Consider the existing car a shell. Nothing in it as far as wiring, drivetrain or suspension is going to cut the mustard with a 5.4. Now that we have an understanding of the depth of the change, please refer to my earlier post and tell me where I can clarify. I could easily spend 20 pages detailing the individual changes. Suffice it to say you'll want a donor v8 car or make a call to MPS in Winder, GA (www.mpsautosalvage.com)... something like a rollover or similar so you can use all the drivetrain possible. MPS can set you up with every single part you'll need but it's going to be quite expensive.

Start with a complete GT wiring harness, SVT focus fuel pump, 30lb injectors, ECU, dash cluster, trans w/clutch, drive shaft, rear end, and k-member. After that, come on back and we'll continue.

r3dn3ck 03-05-2008 08:36 AM

PS... there's a car on craigslist in the San Francisco area that's like 2K or so for the whole car. It's a new edge that's been written off. It can be shipped most anywhere for enough money.
