moving on up...4.2 time

ok...so its my understanding that all i need is the 4.2 crank, 4.2 pistons, and a 4.2 flexplate...correct??

what years will work?

on another board there was a link to the crank and it was only $135...it was for on 05 though...will it work?? and would i need 05 pistons too?

and what do i look for on the flexplate...or can someone give me a link

im getting it bored .030 over too...

anyone have any other suggestions??

best thing to do is pick up a 4.2L rotating assembley kit from somewhere like delk or super six motorsports. I beleive it has everything you need besides a 4.2L crank and i think you need a 4.2L flywheel.

and please go forged....there is no reason not to.

I would call Matt at Delk performance and talk with him about what you would need. He is the best guy i have ever delt with over the phone. He will spend time to make sure you know what you need and understand everything.(Great guy).

Is there much of a power difference between the 3.8 and 4.2 or is it just how much potential it has over a 3.8?

usually the gain is around 20-30rwhp over a 3.8L. but the torque is what is really increased. The crank in the 4.2L is prolly 2-3x heavier. which means when you rev that baby high and get it spinning it is going to make some big push.

and the potential is greater as well. mostly it isnt much more if you are rebuilding in the first place not to bore it out. It isnt much more money.

it's the same kind of performance upgrade as a 5.4 swap. you may not make gobs more HP but the git-up-n-go factor should improve dramatically.

Does it require a lot of work to do the swap? I don't really know much about building engines right now so it seems pretty difficult.

motor work is always at least a couple weekends worth. If you've never assembled a shortblock you may want expert assistance.

for me the only thing that will be difficult it all of the elctronic junk....i can completely rebuild any carbed engine in a weekend....actually done it in one saturday before...but i dont know much about the computerized stuff....but as far as the actual block and heads and the "main" parts of the engine, im set and know what to do...lol

I thought you had to get the 4.2 block because it has a taller deck height for the longer stroke, from what i see hear its the same 3.8 block with just a longer stroke then?

tuning is cake. On a simple stroker application you should be able to at least drive it to the dyno. After that make sure it's tuned before any WOT runs.
