PCV and new CAI

ok, so, I've ordered the CAI from AM
http://www.americanmuscle.com/muv6coairins.html
and have it installed.... 99.9%
Of course, the plastic nipple did NOT come out of the PCV hose but broke off.... yea, so I couldnt pull the rest out.
I've for now (20 miles) just propped the hose out of the way (no oil so far) and just left the intake part open....
What I'm wanting to know is what is the ad/dis vantage to leaving this off?
I can see the possibility of a "vacuum" leak with this open hole in he intake pipe and the fact that it will not help pull pressure out of the valve cover....
I've also seen where you just pop a filter on the "port" on the Valve cover, and cork the intake pipe.
Ideas, recommendations?
BTW, this intake kit ROCKS!!! no instructions but in my opinion, if you cant figure out an intake, you should not have access to your engine bay. :-)
I've noticed a small gain in HP (placebo?) and a nice throaty sound.... not to mention a neat whistle chirp thing if you tap the gas. I mostly like the throttle response.... AWESOME!

oh, PS. are these generic cone filters any good or will a true K&N REALLY make a difference.... a $40 difference

So you have the line that goes to the PCV unhooked and sitting in the engine bay? Then your sucking up dirty air and unmetered air which is also bad. Fix your PCV setup and put it where it goes.

I thought the PCV pushed (a little) air out??? Positive crankcase ventilation.... It's not in a place it can suck up any dirty air either, kinda propped up by other hoses, also where i can see if any oil is coming out. Should I run the hose back to the intake or just get a filter then? for now, I've just got a rubber cap on the intake pipe...

the PCV is to vent the vapors out of the crank case i would rec that you get that fixed you can mess stuff up by not having you crank case vented

The vacuum from the motor when running is what pulls it out of the pcv valve. Having it not hooked up means it is pulling in dirty air (just because its behind something doesn't mean dirt doesn't fly around there) you are ingesting un-metered air as its not going threw the MAF and sucking up allot more air then it would when correctly hooked up. Go do whatever you need to so thats it hooked up and working.

the nipple on the intake pipe is corked (now), thus not sucking in air....
the PCV pipe is hangin out
still bad????
I know best best would be to get new pipe, put it back in intake.... is it really that bad that it is not sucking up extra oil????
