New Guy w/Question

hello. I just recently bought an 04 mustang v6. I want to change out the exhaust, but didnt want to mess up my warranty. My dealership said that getting the dual exhaust might mess up the computer components in the engine and make the car run worse since it would be getting more air flow then its programmed for.. is this true?

also.. what sort of problems can come from changing out the exhaust? My warrenty wont cover anything that happens to the car that is the result of switching out the exhaust.

Thanks

Do what you want with your car you will be fine. The warranty is only voided when the problem is directly caused by the modification. Exhaust isn't going to cause a problem.

r3dn3ck 11-29-2007 01:38 PM

that's all BS. You can't have any more air go out the back without more coming in the front.

There's zero that putting new exhaust on can do to the car as long as you leave the stock cats and o2 sensors in their stock positions. They have to prove that your modification damaged the specific part that you're trying to have replaced. Look up the Magnusson-Moss Warranty act.

Dave04Mustang 11-29-2007 01:40 PM

also unless you bought an extended warranty your car probably isn't under warranty anymore.

PColav6 11-29-2007 01:51 PM

It's a crock of shit.

i bought the extended warranty..

ok so i dont need to do any reprogramming to the computer stuff if I get dual ex? It would really suck to have something go wrong due to this, and not get to use my 100 deductible warranty

I bought the OEM fog light kit from Justin over at vmptuning. Here is the link: http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index...d=123&parent=0 its a great kit has everything including the fog light button that you install on your center console. Installation is pretty easy comes with instructions.

cool thanks for the link.

Cheddarbob 11-29-2007 03:40 PM

Lang 11-29-2007 03:43 PM

im not even sure.. I checked the thread about it on here and i think it will be flowmaster? I took it to the shop an they didnt help me understand many options.. I saw an H pipe on craigslist i was going to get, but this whole warrenty thing has me afraid... i think they are just cutting my y pipe and welding the other one in? not sure how it works, really.

Lang 11-29-2007 03:46 PM

oh an they want to charge me 550 for this instal.. i was seeing people on here saying they got it done for like 3 or 4... is 550 a rip? why the heck it gonna cost me so much.. I checked a few places, too.

If you get flowmasters get the Super 44's they are way better than the 40's

If you care about the warranty, then don't mod.

if I put a stock H pipe taken off a gt on my v6 would it then cause problems to the airflow and whatnot?

you need a midpipe for a V6 not GT or get a custom one made at a shop

Well it won't fit because right now you have a single exhaust pipe. Once you go to get dual exhaust put on just get them to install the H pipe as well.

CarnageCAB 11-30-2007 09:51 AM

So to put a dual exhaust on a v6 you would have to get it custom made? I thought it was a Y pipe that you could replace with a H or X pipe then just add a exhaust on that. There is a converter thing on AM.com but it looks like an H pipe or is it not?

r3dn3ck 11-30-2007 10:26 AM

there are true bolt on kits. Call AM and have their friendly helpful staff help you instead of relying on us dumb butts to help you. AM will be able to answer all your questions in 1 phone call.

there are many threads on this but yes if you buy the adapter then you can put any GT catback on your car. Otherwise you can get a V6 H pipe: http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/XPipe.htm or you can have the shop custom make you a Midpipe and then you can install the catback

Lang 11-30-2007 11:18 AM

so this gt stock H pipe will only fit on the v6 if I get the adapter installed? and then the muffler(or catback) would then goto the H pipe and then tips added to that?
i thought they took the whole y pipe out and the H pipe connected to the headers... all this catback, midback stuff is confusing..

is that bolt on magnaflow kit which they sell on here something worth getting?

ill probably call and ask these guys like it was suggested...

thanks for all the help guys

They cut off everything from the behind the cats. Hence cat back.

That magnaflow kit is great for starts.

xxhurley82xx 12-31-2007 04:54 PM

leave the gt h-pipe idea alone.;) just have the shop make one for you- get mandrel bent if you can- or buy a bolt-on.

oh, and x2

Brodom 01-02-2008 11:10 PM

I got Flowmaster 40's which to me sound awesome and I also got the H-pipe conversion kit they sell here which was like $100 and that cuts your Y-pipe and turns it into an h-pipe and saved me like $100. What I have noticed though is a significant change in sound due to cooler denser air and it sounds like a beast now! Seeing as your up north where it rains like every day I think you would be pleased.

Also $500 for installation seems a bit steep if you ask me my install only cost like $180.

WikidStang 01-03-2008 09:21 AM

ive got an 02 and you can get stuff pretty cheap...in some cases from rpm performance I have got 2 1/2 inch x pipe with cats from there but you have to buy an o2 extensions rpm techs can give you more info on that. I also have hedman headers that you can get from advanced
