throttle body for the 3.8L
 

Hello all, new to the site. Just bought my first Mustang. Its a 2000 Coupe with the V-6 3.8L. I am interested in adding a throttle body to boost horsepower and didn't see it in the parts section. Anyone know which one I need? Part number or any other identifying numbers would be helpful. Thanks for helping out a newbie.

Don't get one. it will be completely ineffective on your vechicle. Tell us what you want to do with your car, what you are looking to get out of it, and what your budget is, and we will give you a list of useful mods to help you out. Also auto or manual tranny?

well to answer his question you can get a bbk 65mm t-body thats about it.
but a t body does you no good on a six untill higher HP applications AKA forced induction.

but you can get like 5 hp from one.

you won't even get that much. You are uping the size of the TB yet your Upper intake isn't ported to match you just end up raming the air against it, and it does nothing.

honestly its not worth doing it right now. It is a type of mod that is used much later in the modding process, it's not worth the money either

Well, the engine is all stock right now and I want to start the process of providing more power and give the engine a nice look so when you pop the hood you see lots of chrome and just a good looking engine plus performance and power. That's my intent.

I forgot to write that it is a auto tranny.

what's your budget?

if you want power, turbo the car. find out what works best with the turbo and only get that stuff.

well for just basic looks and maybe 1-2hp get a CAI off of American Muscle, also get a strut tower brace, and if you up to it, polish your alternator and upper intake to satisfy your looks. Also for about 5-8 hp pick up an Underdrive pulley and water pump pulley. Plus a good cleaning and that will have your engine looking good. Won't be much faster then stock though. If you want to add performance you have 4 possiblities. 1. Turbo; 2. Supercharger, 3. Nitrous, 4. Build the motor. It all depends on your budget. Also for an auto, a 3200 stall torque converter, and a tranny cooler will allow your car to take off much better, when you get on it.

Give us a budget, and what type of racing, if any you would like your car to be oriented around.

I haven't really thought much about a budget yet. Can you suggest a good supplier for the turbos, superchargers and intercoolers?

I don't know where all of you live that answered my questions, and that doesn't matter because I don't want to be nosey, but the racing thing got my attention. I've been thinking about that. If anybody lives in or knows about Illinois, or maybe that doesn't matter. What kind of racing can an amatuer do with a car like mine that's been modified just enough to race but still be street legal?

Drag racing,road course,and autocross racing are the types of racing that come to mind for me. You can modify your car alot and still be perfectly street legal as well as have a competitive car to go compete in these events. I personally am in to autox, and suprisingly my car does alright. For all these events, especially autox the driver/driver mod(as we call it around here) is the most important thing you can do to any car. Experience will show more improvement in your overall perforance at first then any mod will. If you want to leave your car open to all these types of events, then you need to be careful in the suspension mods you choose, too tight and it will suck at drag(won't get very good weight transfer), but stock and you will be hurting at autox road course. Lots of power and you will be doing awesome at road and drag, but it might be a bit too much for autox(you will be wearing tires left and right). It's all about finding a balance for the type of race(s) you want to enter in, as well as keeping the car functional for daily use. You would have to do alot alot to make it not a great daily driver, but it is something to keep in mind since that can be personal preference.

autocross in Illinois
 

Anybody out there live in Illinois and can give me some information on finding out where I can do autocross with my Mustang here in Illinois? Or, is there a website that will show all Mustang autocross and then I can pick by state? Don't know how to find out where to get info on this!!!
