more power for a V6

hello, i have a 2000 V6. i would sooo much rather have a V8,...but considering this is my first car, ill take what i can get. but anyway, the only thing i have done to it performance wise is a flowmaster muffler. im going to get a k&n cold air intake soon. what else is there that will give me the most bang for my buck in horsepower? thanks!

SnTBakosFinest 02-19-2007 09:18 PM

If I were you..I'd go dual flowmasters...

Don't spend all that money on a K&N when you can buy a cold air for much cheaper..and it does the same things...

Horsepower wise...

Gears/Positraction/Tuner (SCT/Diablo)

Pulleys, headers, throttle body, nitrous/turbo/supercharger

PColav6 02-20-2007 05:54 AM

Most bang for buck = nitrous

Yeah split it out to true dual h pipe, dont buy K and N. Yes they are the best IMO but its to expensive and K&N dosent make a CAI for your v6. some other sites just say it is but its not so beware. Get this CAI its way cheeper and works great. http://www.americanmuscle.com/muv6coairins.html
Is your stang auto or manual? If its auto buy 4.10 gears and T-loc or if its manual get 3.73 Gears and T-loc. Then if you got the gears you would have to buy one of theses 1. SCT Xcal 2 or 2. Diablosport Predator. the gears change your speedo so you need this to fix it and it gives you 15 HP.
you can also get pully system heres a link its the first one on the page http://v6mustangstuff.com/engine.htm
and if you have time get some spark wires 9mm

Those have nothing to do with power out put. I know what you mean you're just confusing speed with power.

battousai287 02-20-2007 10:22 AM

will switching to duel exaust actually give me any more horse power? and you said that k&n doesn't have a CAI, it does have a fuel injection performance kit though. its this one - http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...0A1927825.aspx i was actually going to get this one. what is your say on this? and about the underdrive pulleys, im running an amp and two subs, i heard if you have alot of sound equip thats not a good idea? is that true? and about the 4.10 gears and tlok, i was actually kinda planning on getting those, but my main concern is how much would it cost to have a mechanic install them? im not so great with cars, my dad is, but i doubt he would help me that much. sorry for all the question, but you all seem to know your stuff! =)

well dual exhaust makes it look beter and it sounds better IMO. IT might give you 4-5 HP if that but its better to have good exhaust for bigger mods down the road. And the K and N is good but its a short ram intake not a cold air intake. and your paying for the name. If you had a GT they make CAI for them but not for V6. But if thats what you want and you can aford it go for it . I was considering buying that same kit but i went cheep and with genaric and got a better result. For the pully yes i have heard this Im running a 12 in rockford Fosgate P2 sub and 600 watt amp but i havent installed the pully yet. But the pully say that it wont hurt normal charging idk about the aftermarket power setup. I was told Id be fine but if you dont want to thats ok. The Gears and Tlock price will be around 600 installed. but well worth it.

ok let me rephrase that I dont consider them CAI because they have a piece of plastic surounding them. I prefer the Fenderwell CAI

by the way that looks very nice

mustangvsix 02-20-2007 05:27 PM

honestly don't waste time with bolt ons. get a drop in filter(something like k&n), remove your airsilencer, get an exhaust that sounds good to you, 4 hp will be about the max gain on our cars. then decide where you really want to spend the money. Nitrous is a good choice, probably most bang for the buck, but is only thier when you flip the switch. Superchargers/turbo's are also good but can cost you alot. 2-5k depending on used/new and what you are looking at. But if you are not looking to go that extreme, a set of gears and a tuner will satisfy you, until you can upgrade to a V8(if that is what you really want). hope that helps some.

TClark22 02-21-2007 05:12 AM

yea i was about to say...i have a k&n intake

and it is no different from a fenderwall one...there is no advantage to having a fenderwall cai

i know its my personal pref but i would buy it. thats why i like the typhoon CAI from K&N

cuban3jumper 02-21-2007 09:11 AM

Um...I have a V6 with a fenderwell CAI. BBK,MAC, make them, so do a bunch of smaller shops on ebay.

Look just get a CAI any you want it doesn't matter. Anything is better then the stock flimsy rubber crap. Removing the air silencer has been proven to actually net you a lose in power so I don't know why people still recommend that? Get a tru dual exhast system and then see where you really want to go with the car.

Oh and an underdrive pulley won't effect your car even with those stereo mods. There are people running over 1500 watts on a huge 42% pulley (no one should be that high by the way) and they are "fine" for now LOL. Go with the 25% and be happy with your 5-7hp...maybe.

hello, i have a 2000 V6. i would sooo much rather have a V8,...but considering this is my first car, ill take what i can get.
I feel the need to interject and hijack here..

I've discovered its all preference. The V6 Mustang is still (comparably) a powerful sports-car, and without the HUGE sales of the V6-line of the Mustang, Ford's Mustang program would probably be drastically reduced. Its a V6 and with a little modification, its faster than a good 3/5th's of the stock-market.

But its not all about speed, its about style too. Just don't do one thing, compare yourself to a GT. This is something that GT owners are guilty of too... they see a V6 and automatically their male instinct kicks in and they'll call you out that they have the "upper-hand" because they have a GT. I mean, I get it all the time... its that "I'm-better-than-you" mode that you've seen since High School. Mine's not a Saleen, but its a replica and I get SHIT for it everywhere. But, alot of people don't see the "V6" or "GT", they just see "MUSTANG" in chrome on the back bumper and I get compliments from johnny-badasses on crotch rockets, state police officers, truckers, guys in minivans.. you got a piece of history dude. No matter what, a GT will always be faster, more powerful than a V6 (I mean, there are two extra cylinders.) You can put a supercharger in a V6 (like I plan on, hopefully), and it'll be faster than a stock GT. Put a supercharger on a GT, and a supercharged GT will always beat the V6.

I love my six-gun, and probably would only trade it in for a GT when I can pay the $450 a month payment on it (not including the insurance.)

Drive it with pride dude, and let the GT guys mess with GT guys. (Its like, a Division I-A football team playing a Division I-AA team...) relax and pin the gas man!

**end hijack

Cheddarbob 02-21-2007 04:03 PM

the only car id give up my six for thats reasonable would be a Mach or a GT

Milos 02-21-2007 04:11 PM

Well I mean, you can get as close as a GT all you want. Dual exhaust, gears, and what not. But those two cylinders (and in my case, my transmission) will ALWAYS make a GT one-up. No matter what you do, a GT will always be one up.

A GT will always have an upper-hand on the street.

not to drag this on but it also depends on how moded the gt is. like the v6 mustang on super six could take on almost all gts. its just the REALLLLLLLLYYYY fast ones that it couldnt beat. but none of us have that car so yeah we get what ya mean

Milos 02-21-2007 04:21 PM

I meant street legal :Woot:

I like you, Bob. You're very informed.

Cheddarbob 02-21-2007 05:32 PM

why thank you
