easiest upgrade to gain horsepower in a v6

hey guys,
i recently put a bbk cold air intake on my v6 mustang. im really happy with the performance of it. other than that, my car is pretty much stock. what should my next upgrades be to boost horsepower and overall performance in my pony?
thanks in advance for any advice

lol read the stuff in my thread (one below this)

i asked basically the same question and they all said GEARS, EXHAUST, and a TUNER

Teal_Beast 02-05-2007 12:58 PM

if by exhaust you mean turbocharger, then yes.

sugnyte69 02-05-2007 03:07 PM

ya get some 4.10 make sure they're 7.5's get a tloc with it an exhaust a tuner probably a sct or diablosport maybe a throttlebody and some headers you can always supercharge or get some spray but i dunno how much you really wanna put in what yr is your car by the way and auto or manual

my car is an 03 automatic. im looking to get the most horsepower for under 500-600 dollars. can you please give me a link to the best places to get this stuff yall are recommending so i can compare the prices and find what im looking for for the cheapest price. thanks

Most horsepower for under 600$? I'd say nitrous

Gears and tlock/tune + install would be well over 700$

spike_africa 02-05-2007 05:44 PM

most power for cheap is hands down going ot be nitrous. Or keep saving and get a used blower setup.

jeredan2003 02-05-2007 06:39 PM

put a vortech s or sq trim on it with an aftercooler. do an exhaust and then be done.

paintballbryan1 02-05-2007 07:22 PM

what one thing is gonna get me the most power so ill know what to get first? the gears, an exhaust, or a throttle body. im gonna eventually get all of them. but i need to know what to get first. i already have a bbk CAI so im thinking throttle body. but i am kinda new to this so im not real sure what to get first.
thanks

sugnyte69 02-05-2007 07:32 PM

id say the gears i gained more from those then my exhaust or cai but i dunno i dont have a throttlebody so i cant say for tht but americanmuscle.com will have the gears

dhuskers_11 02-05-2007 08:20 PM

i would get the dual exhaust if you only have 500-600 to spend because if you get gears you should get an lsd and you will have to get some type of tuner so it is going to cost more

paintballbryan1 02-06-2007 10:21 AM

if i do get the gears, do i have to get a tuner and a t-loc? and what is the best tuner for the cheapest price out right now?

dhuskers_11 02-06-2007 06:32 PM

it would be stupid not to get a tlok of some sort, and if you dont get a tuner your speedo will be off

SnTBakosFinest 02-06-2007 10:44 PM

yea you need to get a tune... and cheapest as far as that goes...isn't exactly the best... you'd probably want to go with a Diablosport or SCT... and if you're going to get gears..you'd might as well get tlock...you want that power going to both wheels :)

As for MAJOR increases in horsepower... Nitrous Turbo or Supercharger basically.

Nitrous, a few will say for a safe kit so you don't blow your engine up can end up running you somewhere around like 2 grand

Turbos... I think those get even more pricey..something like 5 grand..

Supercharger ... same thing...something like 5 grand brand new..

Not to mention install prices... which will knock you up close to 6 grand

*NOTE* a tuner will give you some more power.

TClark22 02-09-2007 08:21 AM

a turbo kit from tma cost 3650...then install and a tune...so add around 1500

a procharger kit is 3600...install u can do urself and tune around 400$

nitrous...not completely sure but say 600 for a kit...400 for tune...i dont know much about nitrous but i just kinda guessed

more horsepower

i would recomend a dual flowmaster exhaust kit, and performance module to get the most bang for your buck thats what i did to my mustang and it has a nice response when i step on the throttle, also consider a new throttle body

b ry87 02-16-2007 07:16 AM

and i would buy a under drive pulley kit for a cheaper way to gain an extra 15 horse

T-body is kind of a waste on a v6 IMO id get one but they are no worth the money you spend on them and are getting rare

97_Cobra_Droptop 02-17-2007 08:05 AM

are you only ever going to spend 500-600 or just for now? I'd go ahead and get the tuner, since you'll need it again if you ever do gears or FI/NO2 in the future. U/D pulleys never hurt, and you should be able to get pulleys and a tuner under $600. RPM outlet offers v6 packages, including a U/D pulley, belt, and tuner for $450 w/free shipping (sorry AM). They claim 30 RWHP. you will eventually want a t-lok for any decent traction anyway. more power means more time spent spinning one tire. Be carefull with v6 dual exhaut kits. Not all are true dual, some are just a second y pipe, so you go 2-1-2, with single exhaust restriction and cosmetic dual tips. Pypes offers a header back kit, but if you look at the v6 exhaust threads, you will read that you don't need a crossover pipe, so if an exhaust shop will give you a deal, it may be cheaper to run pipe to mufflers. For more on gears check out general tech. It has "the official gear thread". everything you need to know, even a link to a gear calculator. Keep your final goal in mind and don't forget suspension, wheels/tires, brakes, all the safety stuff.
