Help Please...Purchase Question/s

Hello Folks,

1st post :)

Need :help: if possible....

My Girlfriend is looking at a 2000 3.8 V6 automatic Mustang convertible to possibly purchase. Does anyone on the forum have any experience with this particular model (engine/transmission). Interested if the vehicle model has any inherent mechanical problems?
Another area of concern would be the convertible top and any problems associated with the mechanical or electrical functions.
Also / Or if I am in the wrong site or forum, does someone know of a good or better source to go to to ask these questions?

Thanks,

Nic

99-04 V6 will all be a safe bet. Should also be the same as far as mechanical I believe, someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I know the 99-01 GT's are slightly mechanically different than 01-04 GT's. Other than that, many people are happy with there V6's. I don't know much about the convertible top though for you.

Thanks Whitethunder46.....

I forgot to post that it is also an automatic and it has 95000 miles.

The engine appears never to have been cleaned (which I almost actually like)and shows no signs of oil leaks.

Any comments on the auto tranny and the high miloeage would also be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Nic

Well I would think I would be more comfortable with a manual with that high of mileage instead of an auto.

If you are not totally in love with that stang, do a search on Autotrader.com and cars.com really quick. Set you boundaries to 99-04 V6 and see what is around. There are a lotttt of V6's for sale now that 05+ has been around.

If you don't mind, what's your zip and price range and I can help you search. Any colors you must have? Must be a convertible? Auto? etc.

That is absolutely great...thanks sir :)
We are in Richmond Virginia 23229 and 23838 (use 23229 for all practical purposes). We tried searching A/Trader and CarMax yesterday without much luck as the 2000 year model is maybe more than her limit. This particular car is being sold by a private owner out of a parking lot (it may be advertised somewhere as well but I am not sure) and the owner has a $6500.00 asking price which she can afford.

She is a red headed Irish girl and what caught her eye was that this car is kelly green :).

Thanks,

Nic

opps, I am affraid it has got to be a drop top :)

I have the all of that convt, v6 and its 2000 I have had no problem with the convert but i had a small crack in one of my headers not very hard or expensive to fix other than that its sweet.

Good selection I would think...my choice would be the gray coupe....very good looking ride I think....

BUT :)

the green machine is her fancy I believe. Almost everything from clothing to china has to have its green...

I just talked to her and she had a legit question....how long are the timing chains good for please?

Is transmission an inherent failure type of thing with the 3.8 transmission?

Thanks,

Nic

All i would know is that mine have been fine the whole time. it has 80358 miles on it and thats more mileage then most people have on that year of mustang and i just took it in for a check up at ford. nothing wrong with it. I i push my car to the limit. i hoped that could help some if not someone else will get it.

The mustangs are usually known to be good up to 150K miles until really any severe replacements or breakdowns. Just be sure to spend a little and take it in and get a full service check once you purchase it.
