Mach

i was wondering if the mach system actually does anything or is it just for looks and does it replace the air intake?

It's most for looks. If it makes any power its nothing noticeable.

I'm assuming he's talking about the shaker system.....The designer of the
Mach 1, Scott Hoag said the shaker it doesn't really help the car out until it's going 75mph +.....how much it helps, I have no idea...but probably not that much. I don't think there would be anyway to simulate that on a dyno..... I do know that when I fire my mach up you can hear the air being sucked into the shaker....also if your sitting at idle and give it some gas you can hear the air sucking in. It's pretty damn cool.

There is a guy on the Mach 1 registry that swears up and down that when he raised his shaker 3/4 inch and gained 1mph on his trap speed at the track.....he claims it's because the shaker is able to get more air....hmmmm....not sure about that one, but I did the mod just cause it looks cool and scares ricers! ha ha

If he raised it .75 inch it would almost certainly help a little (hell just to get it closer to the slip stream) but +1mph trap I don't imagine being at all likely. The hood shape isn't ideal for making it functional in any real sense so even jacking it up an inch won't help a lot. The scoop also isn't big enough in frontal area to make any substatial difference at all but the most insane of speeds anyway. If you could increase the frontal area a good bit and lower the dome on the hood you'd get a better ram-air effect by far.

If it doesn't increase performance much, I'd say just go with a new hood. That's pretty expensive just for looks when you can get a kick ass hood a whole lot cheaper.

there's no way to prove that it helped 1 mph in a 1/4 mile bc who's to say that he didnt mess up in his first run and in the second run, whabam, 1mph more!

i dont know if it helps but i love the way it looks!!!

:stupid:
But just look at all these TransAms with ram air X_X
Looks

do you notice on the TA where the scoops are? Dead smack in the middle of the slip stream at the very front of the car... right where the air stream splits. They're big enough to get a good feed and they really work to a point but still you have to be going ticket fast already to make a diff. You just can't expect to make any supercharging effect (that is what ram air is all about) until you're going 60-80. Then it starts picking up nicely. If you were to stick something like a Boss429 scoop on a mach1 dome. That might just do nicely to get a bite and help with some over-pressure. Just a guess.

Looks, waste of money unless you really want the looks of it.
