V6 Mustang Wheel/Tire Question
 

I'm getting 18x9 Bullitt Wheels front and rear, and I am thinking 245 tires front and back (I'd put 275's in the rear, but then I couldn't rotate them). I don't know anything about tires so what do I need to look for?

I've got a 2000 V6 Manual that I'm planning on putting a 5.0l V8 in sometime. I want good traction but also tread life. Help please :D

Go 265's or 275's all the way around. I run 265/35's up front and 295/35's out back and they rock :punk: But you want to be able to rotate them so yea 265's or 275's 245's, there's just no point.

Yea I would not got with 245's.If you want the same to rotate then 275/40/18's would be best.

So how much room is there up front, I've never looked at it, but I don't want the tires to rub like my oversized tires on my four-wheeler do haha. When I turn sharp they rub on my fenders :)

thats the height of the side wall. i.e. the amount of rubber between the ground and lip of the rim

Yea but keep in mind that the wider of tire you go the smaller that 40 profile will be. For example a 265/40 tire will have more sidewall then a 295/40 tire.

275's will fit fine you might rub a bit but a bump steer kit will eliminate that or better yet don't turn your wheel all the way to lock.

What do you want me to explain? How not to lock the wheel? The bump steer kit?

Someone else can ring in here too but I don't believe that is correct. The 40 is a percentage, and so 40% of the larger 295 would mean that the 295 would have more sidewall than the 265. Just clearing that up. 40% of 265 is 106 while 40% of 295 is 118.

You know what you're right. I don't know how I mixed that up. But my point remains a profile of 40 or 30 or whatever is not the same for every size of tire.

yeah, you just have to remember that the profile "number" is actually a percentage of width and not a standard size.

To calculate the side wall height, go to "TireRack.com" and look under the tire section. There is a complete page devoted on how to calculate your side wall height. A 265/40/18 tire would would be 10.43" wide with a sidewall height of 4.172" overall tire height would then be 26.34" tall...... A 275/40/18 tire would be 10.82" wide with a side wall height of 4.33" and a overall height of 26.66" tall. Hope this helps.
