Fucking Sumi-homos.

Brontobyte 03-07-2011 11:55 AM

^haters in the building.

they're cheap and they get the job done. i'd love to have a fat pair of drag radials on the rears just because the tread looks dope but it's a daily driver.

g-forces kid! lol nah gotta get what money supports

Im getting ready to order a pair of those 315's too. I looked around at other options but it's hard to beat $245 shipped (after MB discount) for 2 315's... They hook good enough for my daily driving.

I wished Sumitomo made their HTR Z III series in a 315/35ZR17 tire. I have the 275 HTR III's on the front, they are great tires.

I remember when I got my set of 315/275 Sumi's... they look so BA... so damn wide.

Brontobyte 03-07-2011 07:10 PM

i personally think that the tires remind me of the tires off of a toro z master.

the one my mom's bf has are 12in wide and have a similar stubby (garden friendly) tread pattern.

This.

After having my sumi-homos for two months and them turning BROWN, no matter how much I treated them, cleaned them, whatever. I said fuck it. Not to mention driving in heavy rain was almost as bad as having a DR with those things. HTR Z IIIs as well.

BFGs or Nittos all the way now. Cheap is not something you use with tires.

Yea, and after talking to a Nitto rep they said that is usually caused by impurities in the manufacturing process. They way he basically said it was that they use these synthetic or impure substances to cut cost. So it's impossible to "fix" it because they just get that way over time.

I believe they are made in Korea. I would soak mine down with all kinds of tire shines and in just a couple days they would be this dull dark brown. On the flipside though they wore pretty well.

Even though they are both 315's, I've heard some people say that Nittos look a bit slimmer? I've only used Sumis... and they are pretty damn wide. And worthless as shit in the rain.

Brontobyte 03-09-2011 11:02 AM

the guy that owned the cobra r rims before me had sumi's on them and they weren't brown. they were almost shot (okay they were slicks) but i rode on them for about a month, washed, tire shined, and i didn't notice any brown or anything less than black. you mean the sidewall or the whole tire?

TUFF 4.6 03-09-2011 12:16 PM

Hey man, first of all I'm not dumping on tires I'm happy that you got the set. They will look good on your car. For me its been about four years ago when I the set on my car and the sidewalls would aways turn dull dark brown. I never thought anything elese about it until 08 said something about it and it just brought back that memory.

It was just probably a bad batch or something like that. You'll be fine.

Yea these were back in like '09 or earlier. So they could've changed since then, I just don't like their lack of traction at all. Its very hard to tune a car for suspension or power when the slightest bit of traction loss results in a 30 yard burnout.

315s won't help that either. Wider tires = more likely to hydroplane. So be careful with cruise control and heavy rain.

i got them mounted and balanced and wanted to toss them on the car but we've been getting a shit ton of rain in ny and the way i drive to college is infamous for flooding when someone pisses on the side of the road.

i bought these rims last summer and i don't believe the sidewalls were brown. i did however notice that whenever i'd wash my drivers side front rim, the rim would retain some water in the hub area and i'd have rusty water drying in my lip. i imagine sand them down and spray them black.

also, my friend has the same set up (rim wise) on his z28 and he's never had a problem with discoloration. maybe they changed up their game.
